Wedding on Boxing day.. Would you go?

What a terrible day for a wedding. People will still be recovering from all the overeating and drinking on Christmas Day. Whos gonna want to get all dolled up and drag themselves off to a wedding when they could be sat at home, munching leftover turkey sandwhiches and watching the new DVD/blu-ray they got from Santa?

It would depend on how much my wife liked her cousin and how much she wanted to go. If she wanted to go then, yes, I would go with her.

Get your family to create some sort of event and invite both you and your wife. Then you can play the family card as well, and at worst you say "Ok, I'll go to my family, you go to the wedding" or "How about we don't do either?!". :D

OP has no choice as his wife will decide, so this thread is pointless.

If your wife is close to her cousin she will want to go and she will want you there, and if you refuse she might get off with the best man to spite you.

If I say I'm not going, she'd respect that.. She wouldn't be happy but she couldn't make me go. I also trust her 100%, and have no fear of her running off with the best man.

If she finds someone else that will take her, they're welcome :D

Take the Friday make it a big long weekend instead?
Boxing day is a Thursday this year I think.

I can't take the Friday off as my boss has already booked the day, and the other team manager has booked the day so I will be the only person on duty qualified to do the role on the day. I could always stay at home and set the office to re-direct to my mobile though...

It's completely selfish to get married on a major holiday, it's bound to interfere with everyone's plans to some extent. Boxing day is often the day you visit the second set of parents or lessor relatives/kids

If this stupid couple was getting married next door you shouldn't go.
What the hell were they thinking of!? Why not get married on Valentine's day and expect everyone to spend the night with them!

Hang on - you usually see relatives at Christmas right? Since its your wife's cousin aren't a decent portion of her relatives going to be at this Wedding too... her parents (who are Aunt and Uncle to one of the couple) etc...

Why not go see/invite over your relatives on Christmas day and go to this wedding in lieu of making any visit to your wife's family... since lots of them will presumably be there no?

You might not know the cousin but surely it is going to be a big deal if your wife skips the wedding... or would she plan to go by herself?

Well in this instance, since its a cousin, presumably the second set of parents will also be invited?

True :) but I wouldn't want to see any of them at wedding where I'm stuck there for 6 hours.
What I want on Boxing day is to see some random kid with a train set or Lego so I can 'help' them with it

Actually the only wedding I've ever enjoyed was my own, everyone else's sucked. And the more overblown and elaborate they were, the more they sucked

You'd probably moan more if you had to take the day off. I'd go, people will be cheerful since it's both Christmas and a wedding so why not go soak up some festive atmosphere and make your missus happy all at the same time.
