***The Official Nokia Lumia 1020 Thread***

I do think that Nokia/Windows Phone would do themselves some favours if they didn't keep announcing/launching devices months before actual release. Same thing happened with the 920 which was annoying at the time, but I'd hoped they'd learnt from it, and really should "pull an Apple" by releasing a week or so after announcement.

I've just seen the unsubsidised pricing at AT&T, and assuming that the only additional cost in the UK is VAT, it means the retail price should be ~£520. Given that Nokia is also based in the EU, that might wind up a bit cheaper, but it's certainly in the ballpark.

Also nice to see they've gone back to matte finishes. Yellow or white would be nice :).

I really like this phone and it's a very viable alternative to other phones out there. I've been with Android since day one and am getting bored of it now, this phone certainly is tempting me to switch and try WP.

Nokia have done well this time around.

I feel like Nokia never pushes Rich Recording like they should. I think it's a fantastic innovation, and something which needs bringing to attention just as much as the camera. I mean just think of all the concert and festival goers who could benefit from being able to lossless zoom video AND have great sounding audio in their phone.

Some crazy images of what the oversampling can achieve.

Nokia really need to branch out into Android , I can't imagine how many of these they would shift if this was an android phone. Had a 920 for a short period and had to get rid ,wp8 is dreadfull and the lack of apps a joke.

You don't want everything to be on Android though. You need some diversity. WP8 isn't bad IMO. Yes, appstore lacks but it's not terrible. My 520 performs fine for all I need it to do.

That and ignoring everything that says Nokia would be dead in the water by now if they had gone near Droid.

I noticed last week Amazon.de had their pre-orders up at €699 (£600) , I was expecting the UK price to be between £580-£600. Today a few UK etailors put up pre-order prices, Expansys ( dire after sales service ) at £599 and Clove at £588, both looking at an early September release.

Hopefully Amazon UK will have a price up soon and with some kind of promotion to soften the price tag.

Imagine how many cores it'd need to run Android ;)

WP 7.8 & 8 get along quite nicely running on this hardware, dont need umpteen cores to run.
Granted the app store is a bit sparse but how much of the Play store is "actually useful?", same as the Apple's app store, lots of flotsam hiding the semi decent stuff.

My only gripe is that Nokia are way too slow to release this in the UK.
I want to upgrade to the 1020 but I fear by the time it comes out new handsets will have been announced from Apple, Sony, LG and Nokia themselves (1080p version of the 1020) that will make the 1020 look less attractive as a whole.
Also the pricing seems crazy high! They won't shift as much as they did with the 920 and even the 925 so it makes me wonder if they will fully support it as look how quickly they abandoned the 800 owners.

Nokia have done nothing of the sort in not keeping updates flowing to the Nokia apps, the only part they have real control over, it was MS that eventually HAD to switch the Kernal that prevented support. Now we are on the new one its pretty much set for the life cycle of this stage of Smartphones.
I would go for the 1020 if you measure the camera to warrent the price and how much you will use it, im on the fence, but ONLY because I dont know if I would get the use from the camera. Their will now ALWAYS be a new handset coming around the corner, truth is I think im still by far really happy with my 920 and the results I get from it..and knowing big updates will be coming to it, as well as a nice camera software update and support from Nokia.
