I have recently become unemployed having been made redundant and was given a decent pay off. I have had quite a tough year with one thing and another and had the idea of getting away on a holiday to myself. Now I am looking for advice on how to find good last minute deals and if there any sites that specialise in holidays for those travelling alone?

I had a quick look at teletext holidays but seems everything is catered for those with families etc. Was looking to get something last minute and hope get a bargain as well.

Cheers

Wait a month and travel out after the school holiday season?

Personally, if I have no commitment and after such a down, I'd travelling around for a year and do the odd temps to cover for expenses. Might find simething better along the way too.

By yourself? I have no idea.

You could try gathering some mates up and then just walking into a travel agency and ask for a deal leaving tomorrow. We did this a couple of years back and had a great time in Kavos.

Well to put you more in the picture here is a wee breakdown of what happened:

1. Broke up with the wife in October 12
2. Lost my licence in November 12 (had a seizure)
3. Was made redundant end of July

So with all thats happened and the fact I am now out of a job for the first time in 10 years (was at the same company for that time) I am just looking to chill out. I'd love to go somewhere exotic or maybe Japan to check that out. I have done the states and have been to all inclusive deals in the Caribbean a couple of times.

Maybe the Maldives would be cool but I reckon it would be the same as the Caribbean?

Open to suggestions :)

Head to Thailand area, you could always go to China, Japan whilst you're there (but the flights are pretty expensive). From Thailand you could go to Laos / Cambodia quite easily too :)

A few years back there was some tv ads for this lot: http://justyou.tv

Considered going on one of their holidays myself but lack of money and other holidays visiting relatives have meant I didn't bother, so I can't recommend but thought I'd mention it as an outfit specializing in holidays for single travelers. If you got let me know how you get on ;)

do you do / or are interested in doing any sports, i had a great time kitesurfing in Tarifa on my own last year - it was perfect as i stayed in cheap rooms owned by the kitesurf school with several similar aged people (early 30s) went out drinking and eating most nights and had stuff to do during the day.

That sounds particularly awesome - any recommendations on the Kite Surf schools? (hopefully not derailing/hijacking the thread)

I can't recommend Tantrum in Tarifa enough: www.tantrumkitesurf.com

The teachers were great, very passionate and great at getting people going. We were out learning at least an hour before any of the other schools and still going until we were exhausted collapsed on the beach in the evening, every day we were the last school still surfing by a good margin.

We were also only charged for the days we got wind, so the few windless days (it was quite out of season i went) were free (although they did lend us their SUPs to play around on)

Fly to phuket, which will set you back £550 to £700
Stay here
http://sunbeachhouse.com
if you email them they will give you a room for £15 - £20 per night.

spend the day at the beaches / eating thai food / the evening in the bars and the nights with some random girl.

Sounds like just what you need :D

Thanks for the suggestions but sports isn't really my thing, kite surfing would scare the **** out of me. I love the idea of a sort of club 25 to 35 i.e. more relaxed than a club 18 to 30s Ibiza holiday. Love my clubbing but cant really handle it these days with having photo sensitive epilepsy.

Sorry I know I am being really specific here but maybe someone can come up with something :)

I am now single, has anyone got any exp of going on those organised holidays for singles. I cant think of anything worse than going on holiday on ones tod, are they any good?

No Idea but I find its good fun to travel on your own because you meet more people. When I travel with my wife or girlfriends I never meet new people.
