looks promising

I cant see AMD releasing 20nm cards that totally trounce Nvidia as early as October.

Nvidia's board partners still have releases of the current 700 series lined up for August and September ( as in, special releases e.t.c). They wont be very happy if they are made instantly obsolete within a few weeks/a month!

It would be an embarrassment for Nvidia if their 700 series becomes obsolete within 2 months.

I would hope AMD 'trounce' nVidia's latest cards, it would be rather embarassing if they didnt. It's going to take 20nm to do it, while nVidia's 3/4 years old tech still reigns king. AMD have a hell of a lot of market share to pull back and thats the thing you fail to get.....regardless of what AMD does, and even if they have the fastest card on the market when released, nVidia will still outsell them in droves, so no need to lose any sleep over board partners, they will be ok. ;)

Yes but a 20nm card with the rumoured specs wouldn't just be a refresh and a bit more performance. It would wipe the floor with titan and the 780 and make the rest of the 700 and 600 series look ridiculous.

All i am saying is that i think it is extremely unlikely that AMD will be releasing 20nm cards in October.

AMD can top NVidia's latest cards using 28nm, the real question is how much performance do they want in their upcoming cards. The more performance they go for the harder/more expensive it is to make the chips.

AMDs real target is the GTX 780, they need something with equal or better performance. The Titan is also easy enough to top but is it worth it (99% of NVidia users would probably buy a 780 rather than Titan). I do not think NVidia would have bothered with something like the Titan if they did not have the GK110 chip at hand.

It all comes down to how big AMD want their next gen of 28nm chips to be.

Probably they could release 20nm, but probably they will release the new 28nm cards, make lots of money and later release the 20nm cards and make more money.
