Asus ROG GTX 770 Poseidon May Sail to Retail in September

Looks nasty and the idea is pretty stupid imo. You either have air or water, noth both. And it'll probably be better to buy a standard 770 and get a waterblock for it.

If you do get a couple of them, is there any chance of you doing some runs for the Heaven 4 bench thread. It will be really interesting to see how they go compared to the normal air cooled GTX 770s.:)

Yeah sure, My GPU are isolated by quick disconnects so I can even do air/water comparisons.

I actually quite like it but i bet it will be about £150 more than a standard GTX 770 lol.

£100-150 over normal price is what I'm hoping for, but that's actually about equal with a waterblocked lightning/DCii, and as this is a premium card with fully custom PCB it should perform similar.

But the funny thing is unlike before which the old ROG cards (or whatever it was called) was always based on the top x80 card...but now with the price premium smack on top of the 770's price, it becomes far too close to GTX780 price, which people would be better off getting instead :p

Yeah I get what your saying, I would have preferred to see it as a 780 too (or both) but "too close" is pretty subjective really, a basic 770 with block is ~420, ~465 for a DC2/Lightning and a base 780 with block is ~650 so assuming the Poseidon comes in cheaper than a Lightning with an EK block (which it should really) then going SLi there's a £400 difference between Poseidons and base 780's.

Personally I would rather save the =>£400 as dual overclocked 770's will serve me well for a long time at 2560x1080, and in three years time a used 780 block will be as worthless as a 480 block is today. Its all subjective though, different cards/options work out better for different people/needs.

Give me a universal block anyday. It may only cool the core but at least it can be re-used. Sticking heatsinks on the ram is no biggy as the ram barely gets warm anyway. Vrm's can be a problem but if the card is a decent one to start with (my 670 for example) it will have a decent heatsink on it anyway. If it does'nt make/buy one.
