It's that time again ..... again!! :confused: Bit out of the loop lately. I know I'd like a Gigabyte mobo as I've bought these for years & have never had a problem. Then of course there's RAM for it, at least 8GB. I'd also like an i5 CPU. Everything else I'm going to use from my existing computer, although I may also buy an SSD.

I'm confused (as usual) about socket types & chipset types. I'd be on a budget, I don't do a great deal of gaming these days so I don't need anything to set the World on fire. I do a lot of music stuff (Propellerhead's Reason) photo & video editing. I'm also looking to spend as little as possible .... if possible!! So what might my options be for;

  • Mobo: Gigabyte __________ (socket type?)
  • CPU: Intel i5__________(chipset?)
  • RAM: __________

Many thanks ;)

...... had a crack at this myself. How does this look?;

EDIT : You don't want gaming :) Then that above looks all right.
Christ, how times have changed. I was gaming just fine on my current rig (*see signature) when I first built it and for time after that. Looking at the bit I picked I thought it would be just fine for gaming, should I so choose & add a nice juicy gfx card (still partial to the odd FPS & a few rounds of TF2 ;) )

I would go with a faster base clock though.
I don't think I really know what that means!! :confused: Are you talking about the speed of the CPU?

Core i-series CPUs are different architecturally to your existing S775 kit. No longer can you just bump up the FSB for a quick overclock.

If you get a K type CPU and a motherboard with Z-series chipset then the multipliers are unlocked for easy overclocking.

I see. Thanks for the info ;)

Looks good, including the gfx card. Thanks for that ;)
