Amazon has finally brought its combined digital download gaming shop to the UK, selling big-name titles alongside Steam and EA Origin codes, and also letting users browse and download a selection of free games and utilities.

The Digital Games section is currently tagged as being a beta service, although Amazon UK says some 600 PC and Mac titles ought to be ready for download right now. There are also some deals to be had, like Far Cry 2 for £2.49 if you fancy something cheap to give Amazon’s download servers a test spin.

There’s also a less thrilling Digital Software section now live, where you can idly leaf through such business classics as Norton Internet Security 2013 and the five-star legend that is Adobe CS6 Design Standard for Mac — a snip at just £1,158.

Another download site means more chances for competitive prices/sales.

Absolutely - we need competition and Origin certainly doesn't hold a candle to Steam. I love Steam, but if Amazon has cheaper prices and a reliable platform then I'm there :)

This is wonderful news!
Amazon are often nicely competitively priced so this step into digital distribution is great for the games market as a whole.

I can certainly see myself using this service in the future :)

I think steam sales have been turd the past year or so, I've bought most of my games else where like GMG / Gamefly etc cause they sell cheaper, so this is a good thing.

I wonder if they will do a similar service like they do with music.

As in, anything you have purchased in the past will be avalible to download, or along those lines anyway.

Yeah, if prices too high or similar to retail disc, i prefer to get the disk.
Digital should be a lot cheaper than disc to be honest.
