In a bid to step up competitiveness of its Radeon HD 7990 "Malta" dual-GPU graphics card against NVIDIA's GeForce GTX TITAN and GTX 690, AMD add-in-board (AIB) partners slashed prices of the card by almost a third. What was once retailing for $1,100-1,200, is now down to $699.99. Prices of the card on American retailer Newegg.com, are ranging between $699.99 to $789.99, with two AIBs capturing the $729.99 and $749.99 price points, along the way. With the right kind of CrossFire profiles, a Radeon HD 7990 can offer frame-rates rivaled only by GTX Titan and GTX 690. Then there are also AMD's recent CrossFire micro-stuttering fix, and eight Never Settle games with realistic resale value of $100 to account for. These prices should also give GeForce GTX 780 buyers second thoughts.

To be fair, around the £600 mark is where everyone expected the 7990 to sit, very over priced at its original price tag.

Will it do anything to etail prices? It's a dual-GPU card and I don't think they typically interact with the rest of the pricing "ecosystem". People buy them because of other concerns than price after all.

If this is the case then where abouts would the supposed new card coming out in october sit? i ask because a few people seem to think this is the 780's rival!

They'd have a paddle, but the main part of the paddle would've been snapped off. So basically they'd just be using two stumps of wood for any future paddling. I agree.

Nvidia could just lower the price of the GTX 780....to say £400.

That would be a pretty big paddle...

That wouldn't happen this early on into the cards lifespan.

7990 is still a dual GPU solution.

Until AMD sort their multi-GPU house out to a greater degree than they have already = No Buy.

To a greater degree? From the reviews where most of them actually used 7990's the general outlook was fantastic.
