Now I know why I don't want to become a PC Gamer!!!!

Then don't bother. I'm not being argumentative, but if you see no compelling reason to bother then don't. PC gaming is expensive and can be fraught with frustration.

What will you do if your power supply goes bang? Or, for that matter, any component? What will you do when your computer needs upgrading because the £300 gpu you bought is no longer powerful enough? How would you deal with not being able to play a game on launch day because servers can't cope? These are all things a pc gamer has to put up with.

I do it because the titles I want to play are PC exclusive and I have enough interest and disposable income to satisfy that interest.

I mention all this because you don't seem to have the patience to find out solutions to problems on your own. And the problems you've mentioned are fairly easy to fix. I'm not criticising you for this at all, some people just don't have the patience. But this will not be the last hurdle you face if you choose to game on a PC.

Not being funny but I have tried. And I'll try again this evening! It's probably fair to say I'm quickly running out of patience but I haven't completely given up! It's just punkbuster, it doesn't do what it says it should do! It doesn't install anything into the BFBC2 folder apart from a pb folder which has nothing useful in it (as far as I can see).

Frankly the attitude of a lot of PC owners can put you right off as well, but if you can stick with it it's worth it IMO. As a gamer it might cost you more to put a PC together, but then you'll save loads of money on games via Steam sales so it balances out

Half the comments in this thread are derogatory rather than helpful. Not that console players are much better in that respect, but they aren't as elitist.

I'm gonna argue that the attitude of console gamers is worse in general than PC gamers. Yes you get some morons everywhere, but generally speaking the audience for PC gaming is older people, consoles are quite plagued with early-mid teens who don't shut up.

Mouse & keyboard controls. Next question? :p

There's a much longer list, but for shooters, I think that reason alone trumps any others ;)

Pretty much. I'd go through hell and high water to get a game working so long as it meant I could use mouse and keyboard.

There's also a generally lower amount of idiots.

and the rest of the above already mentioned.

The thing people fail to realise with controllers is that on a console it's an even playing field because everyone is using them.

Whereas on PC you get all sorts of things that can give you a slight advantage here and there.

Personally I do the majority of my gaming on PC, but anything multiplayer I get on Xbox 360 as that's what my friends have.

Think Battlefield 3 was the last game I put any decent amount of time in to.

I honestly don't think it makes that much difference, despite what the peripheral manufacturers marketing departments would try to tell us.

I just can't be doing with a controller for FPS, its just not fit for purpose, and I'd also take exception to paying for Xbox live just to be able to play online.

Last thing I want is for this to turn into a console v PC thread! Not interested in that, people have their reasons for whichever they prefer. But if someone could suggest a way of getting punkbuster to work for me then that would be great!

Someone posted some useful links earlier and I will try that when I get home tonight.

I think that happened due to the way it was worded, you would have been better off just asking the punkbuster question rather than the whole this PC gaming malarky is a right old chore.

Anyway, good luck with it. :)

Download Pbsvc and PBsetup. Once downloaded, put them both in your pb folder and run Pbsvc first, which will install the services for you and run some tests to make sure they're working. Once that's all done, then run the pbsetup and add the game and it will download the latest pb files in to the folder it's currently in (pb). Then give the game a go :)

I guess you're right. I wasn't in the best of moods when I wrote it!!! I guess I looked at it like this is the first game I've tried playing and it's not exactly easy to get it working properly all because of a third party programme that has to be installed in order to play online properly.

Someone said it earlier that it's a primitive way of doing things and it's true. Surely it shouldn't be that complicated for developers to add this into the game from the start.

Anyway, I didn't mean to offend anyone (if I did) and I defiantly didn't want to start a console v PC argument. I will never stop playing games on a console but I really want to start playing on the PC too. So any help towards the punkbuster issue would be appreciated.

I think it's the Pbsvc.exe that's been missing. I never got this when I installed Punkbuster. Do you usually have to download them separately?

No if I remember rightly whenever a game had punkbuster the main game installed and then you either had a question to say do you want to install pb or there was a box you ticked/mark with an X to say install it. It then checked whether pb was installed and did the necessary.

Never had to install/download it seperately.

I installed the game a while back so I can't remember if I ticked the box or not. Might just re-install the game and pay more attention to that part! I didn't even know what punkbuster was until this week! I need to re-install the game anyway to see if it fixes my slow load times.

DONE!!! The pnkbstrA.exe and the B.exe were in the sysWOW64 folder!!! Moved them in to the BFBC2 folder and it works!!! But now I have terrible lag issues!! I've joined 4 games (all with a ping of less than 25). I run forward and it jumps me back to where I started! Anything I can do to solve this?

PC gaming isn't for the majority of the computer illiterate masses who should stick with increasingly dumbed-down consoles.;)

What are you talking about?

The constant need to find fixes and solutions with gaming PCs, has nothing to with computer literacy, but everything to do with the constant push to have to hunt for needles in haystacks...... boring, annoying, and time consuming crap, when all the guy was wanting was an hour or two of light relief.

I game on PC and only on PC, cos with the odd sports game aside, I cant tolerate the rubbish graphics, choppy frame rates and screen tearing that is par for the course on the consoles, but I would take the console gamer's easy life any day of the week over the time consuming ordeals that I am frequently faced with through PC gaming.

What connection do you have? And more specifically, is it wired?

It's wireless 20mb cable.......but I just tested it and I got 9mb/s!!!! Why am I paying for an extra 11mb/s if I dont get it!!!!

Could also be affected by time of day if tried peak time when everyone is online. Especially with school holidays probably adding to the load.

Cos....u are with some 'mainstream' supplier (Virgin) that relies on their customer base not really having a clue about what makes a quality connection, or even caring, but who are impressed by big numbers all the same.

If you have just tested your connection, then you are most likely getting bandwidth bottlenecked due to it being peak internet time. If you had been downloading and went over more than 2Gb or whatever this evening, then your bandwidth would be bottlenecked down to about 2Mb/s (200KBPs download speed).

Having said that, 9Mb is around 15-20 times more bandwidth than you actually need for online gaming. Far more important is latency, stutter, and packet loss. These are all factors that wireless will have a negative impact on.

Turn off the poison microwave transmitter and get an Ethernet cable and a Powerline adapter instead. Now and again I feel it necessary to say this, but using wireless internet is not just having a negative impact on your connectivity, but also on your health, and on the health of your neighbour's.

That's right! See that 5 year old kid whose head lies down right next to your wireless router with a few inches of plasterboard in between? You are giving him brain cancer.

Don't worry, Rhyswh, we aren't all like that. If any of them irritate you too much, this forum has an "ignore user" function in your control panel.
