Online Racer Community

Definitely going to try out the 50% offer.

Are there any shorter races 6-10 laps?

Anybody know how much it would cost for Oulton Park circuit too?

Thanks

I play both iRacing and pCARS, I have a senior tool pack for pCARS and I still say iRacing is better if you want to race online. IRacing is evolves and improves at a similar rate to pCARS. This seasons iRacing build is much better than the last and as I've played the game the feeling of driving on ice has improved beyond recognition over the last two years.

I think there's room for both games in my game time, but I think I'll be doing my racing online in iRacing for the foreseeable future. The way it's geared up for online racing out trumps anything that any other sim does by a mile. The only way to beat iRacing online with other sims is via private leagues. That requires an extra commitment I don't want, so I'll stick to public severs and races hosted by iRacing.
yea iracing has the perfect setup it just annoys me when people bash pcars when they likely never played it and when people like to pretend iracing is perfect when in reality it's not.

In My Opinion

iracing
AC
pcars
there's room for all three

people cry about lack of racing games and then when they start coming people bash them and it just makes me think WTF is wrong with people we should be happy to have pcars and AC coming it's almost like the driving sim genre is kicking into gear again

pcars looks really good, its a shame you can't buy in to it anymore.

Think ile pay/download the 3 month 50% off later :) Really want an open wheel car though :p

Don't forget the link a few posts back that gets you 3 months for free.

You only need a US address to sign up and can get one of those with a quick Google.

The single seater/open wheel cars in iRacing are generally more difficult to drive than the GT or touring cars. There's always the Cadillac in the base content if you fancy something with more power than the MX5.

US address :/ Hopefully they don't send any billing information to that address.

Yeah the open wheel cars are harder in race07 too.

Hoping my official Microsoft wheel is ok with iRacing. No clutch but it does have the paddle shifters and its not 900 degree rotation but I wouldn't want that for racing anyway. Just need to wait for the wireless receiver for it now.

Really want the Oulton Park circuit too as that's my local track which I go to quite a lot.

you can pay the subscription with paypal anyway so they won't really need your billing details if you do that.

my account name took the same name as my paypal name though so in iracing I'm called "arknor ocuk" lol

Don't forget that if you use PayPal then your PayPal name becomes your iRacing name. You can get this changed through customer support.

PayPal doesn't auto renew either.

yea so just make a paypal account with the fake name "michael schumacher" or something ;)

skating on ice is just like real life :D
always amuses me when people bash pcars but act like iracing is uber realistic

If you find iracing like driving on ice then you are clearly doing something wrong or just need to work on your skills cause no one else i race with on there seems to have issues with it, only low irating drivers spin out constantly.

most peopkle who bash pcars have never even tried it they just listen to all the troll idiots

I've tried it just like the majority of sim racers have, its poor in terms of being a simulation. Its a simcade game like GT5 and Forza. Thats the general view of most people who aren't pcars fanboys.

BTW do I need to post the iracing recover from any spin by hitting the brake and throttle together videos? i mean it's just like real life amazing

1. Try doing that with NTMv5 cars... won't work
2. You can do the same in just about every sim ever, no one said anything is perfect.

I think you just need to stop sucking at iracing then you might enjoy it more :D

grip > ice > grip > ice

in real life you don't lose all grip in an instant
anyway I'm not here to argue a known fact.

skip barber car like in real life yet? or are people still driving it in a way which is not possible in real life?

I might actually renew my sub but I guess I would have to start from the very bottom again?

No, you carry on from where you left off as far as I know.

oh that would be awesome I do miss iracing even if I seem against it at times.

I think if I do resub I'll grab another 2 monitors for it this time it seems so much easier to be road aware with triple screens from the videos I have watched

I currently have dual screen which sucks for gaming because the car has a line straight down the middle, lol.

@OP - check out VirtualR.net, it's a good place to keep on top of developments in sim racing and there is often some insightful discussion.

I love sim-racing ever since getting hooked in the days of Nascar Racing 2003, which prompted me to buy first wheel and have tried almost everything since! I couldn't warrant the outlay for iRacing due to amount of time I could dedicate to it. rFactor / rFactor2 have been my main routes to good online racing. I wouldn't call rFactor2 dead as someone said (it is still in Beta anyway) but it is worth joining a club that runs regular meetings and has an active community. I joined a 'club' back when rFactor started and haven't raced anywhere else apart from occasional open servers.

Worth a mention are Reiza Studios games, Formula Truck and Game Stock Car. These are based on Gmotor2(?) engine like rFactor1 but really impressive and taken to a different level of quality. You would need to be a member of a club to get the most out of these online.

I also have pCars - my opinion is that it is a bit on the arcade side but the development of the tyre model is interesting. Having said that, the way builds change handling characteristics week by week means I have no idea how it will finally turn out on the sim / arcade scale. My experience of online has been good and there are certain cars that are really good fun to race side by side.

Oooh, and definitely keep an eye on Assetto Corsa progress towards release...

just went online and there was a grand total of 7 people playing it online...

meanwhile on iracing there are currently over 1000 people on various servers

Check again dude, I count about 130. Maybe not iRacing levels but it's still in 'beta' and if you join an active club as I suggest and there is a lot of enjoyment to be had with a group of people you get to trust and respect, etc...
