For those of you who haven't seen it, this blew my mind

Obviously this is all cgi, and apparently took a year to animate, but it is just incredible to me what is capable with software and a team of excellent artists. Maybe I'm just behind the times, but it is just flawless to my eyes.

More info on how they did it here

That's the first time I've seen cgi that I could describe as photorealistic.

Looks quite plasticy to me and the head movements aren't natural enough. I saw it on telly recently and thought I recognised her from somewhere and thought it looked a bit odd now this thread has explained it to me. I'd be very surprised if that claim of 1 years work is true.

I couldn't see the pixels. :p

Genuinely impressed by that advert - if I hadn't known beforehand, I would have believed that the actress in the commercial was real and not cgi'd.

Impressive. It's come a long way since this classic VW ad from 2005 where it looks like someone wearing Gene Kelly's face as a mask:

Why make a big deal of Arnold being a new, untried renderer though. Isn't it Sony's in house renderer. And has been in Project messiah for quite some time (I know that's a different branch of it and Sony have kept developing it more).
It's impressive and I wish I could make something half as good, but at least from the compressed video on Youtube, it's still in the uncanny valley. Maybe if it wasn't a known actress I'd not notice, so they might just be making it difficult for themselves. But it's fascinating how things are improving.

Am I the only one to find it a bit off when when they use dead celebrities to flog things?

If you are going to spend all that time on cgi I want my chocolate sold to me by a dragon....tap dancing.....wearing a sombrero :)

I honestly would be less impressed. When I first watched this commercial on TV I was saying to my gf what an uncanny likeness the actress had to Audrey Hebpurn. It was only later that I discovered it was a CGI render. Watching it back now, I can see a few cracks in the veneer, but you have to admit that if you hadn't looked closely it would be very very passable.

And what the hell is the GTi ad?! That is definitely evidence of progress lol.

Imagine if they started using this to make celebrity sex tapes. Marilyn Monroe getting done by Kennedy :p

Couple of my friends were Artists on the ad. I personally felt it is a little creepy still, but I didn't say that.

Rule 34 or whatever it is :D I personally can't wait (not for that particular scenario but that premise), just hope Cameron hasn't broken the internet by then.

I honestly thought they'd grabbed footage from some of her old movies and recolourised it and overlayed her into their recorded scene. Awesome that the face is total cgi.

Me too, I had no idea it was cgi until coming in here.

Watching it now though, the blinking is a bit... wrong, but the rest is amazing.

Since I'm aware it's CGI, I can see the thing's that don't look 'right' (animation of some of the head moves etc). However, if I hadn't been told it was CGI, would I notice? I'm not so sure.

All I could hear in that ad was the sound of Audrey Hepburn spinning in her grave. :D

I do find it slightly distasteful bringing the dead back and getting them to flog stuff. That said, Galaxy Caramel is quite nice.

Well i never knew it was CGI, not that i've paid much attention to it nor did i notice it was Audrey Hepburn, just thought it was some filter that had been applied.

Now i know i'm rather impressed! :)
