MSI GTX680 power edition at PCI-E x16 1.1

Mate GPU-Z has a built in test, it stays at 1.1:confused:

If you hover your mouse over it does it say its running at 1.1, If so try different drivers im only on 314.22, and my 670 states its running at v3.0,

Try reinstalling gpuz. but check the mobo bios to see if 2.0 or 3.0 is showing in there.

Yeah says 1.1. I'm running a 3570k in a z68 board with latest bios, this CPU replaced a G2020, I did not do a fresh OS install

My cards say 1.1 unless I run the test. Click the little question mark next to it, run test and it goes up to 2.0

Nah mine stays at 1.1

Faulty slot?

Bah. That's a pain. I hate it when things aren't working like they should be. I don't know a huge amount about GPUz, but I know it can be a bit flaky in what it reports. How does your card perform in benchmarks compared to same system set ups?

I've got a Z68 board (Asrock Extreme 4 Gen3), and I haven't reinstalled windows for 2 years+. Tried in the other PCIe slot yet (assuming you have 2?)

Yeah score seem a bit low when compared to others with similar specs, aida64 reports the same speed.

One thing I have noticed is the HD4000 GFX of the CPU are shown in the device manger as enabled, I tried uninstalling them but they reinstall on boot. Does your IGPU show as enabled?

I'll try other slot, runs at 8x.

It is yes. Mines a HD3000. You obviously have a different MB to me, but in my bios there's an option for your primary graphics display to be either PCIe or onboard graphics. Make sure you set yours (if you have a similar option) to PCIe. Just a thought...

There should be an option in bios to disable onboard / chip graphics. Use PEGI if thats an option. Also my gigabyte board shows the pcie x16 3.0 in the bios also and you can change that to 2.0 or 1.0 or 1.1, Other than that . reinstall nvidia drivers to 314.22 and try it ?

Hmm well it's usual for it to run at the slower PCI-E speed when idle.

Try going on your motherboard manufacturer's site, look up your model, and check a) whether it is a PCI-E 2 or 3 motherboard and b) if you have the card in the right slot ;D

Next up, load up a proper benchmark / stress test program, get your card load up close to 100%, and then check what it is. If it's still running in PCI-E 1 whilst at full load, there's something fishy going on there.

Make sure you are using most recent version of GPU-Z and nvidia drivers.

Next step would probably be to fiddle around with options in you nvidia control panel to try and force the graphics card to prefer maximum performance.

And yeah check MB bios to see what speeds the slot is set to run at. I think CPU-Z is able to give you some motherboard info too.

Yeah tried all you suggested, thing is any hardware reporting programme does not specify the PCI-E spec, see CPUZ below. Could the problem be the CPU?

would a fresh install of windows 8 help, I did change the CPU it may have screwed things up.

Make sure the card is pushed firmly in the slot, I had this with a 7970 only loading at 4x 1.1, card wasn't as far in the slot as possible.

Slacken holding screws push and hold firmly, tighten back up while holding :)

Cheers guys. Tried it in 8x slot and was the same, so I reset the CMOS and now it has sorted itself, funny thing is my board is PCI-E 2.0 and it is showing gen 3, must be a bug.
