Is there any way on that famous auction website to see past auctions without knowing the specific auction? I know if you are watching a specific auction after it ends you can see what the final bid is.

What I mean is say you are after a certain model of TV second hand. You look at past auctions to see what the final bids have been. Then you know roughly how much you need for future auctions of that model of TV.

As above.. click on 'advanced search' and tick the completed listings box.

I use it when trying to set a price.

Why say "famous auction website", when typing eBay is far easier and way less obtuse? I've noticed that a lot on here recently, also people mentioning the 'jungle site' too which presumably means Amazon at a guess.

everytime I see someone say "famous auction site" I think they havent read the rules and assume they are not allowed to say it.

so, ennogs, since you joined in 2009 and have made nearly 800 points I think it's about time you read them lol

The rules state that we aren't allowed to mention competitors, including auction sites. Of course, competitors is a rather ambiguous term, and another site could be viewed as not being a competitor in a particular context (for example, if they sell a range of products that OcUK don't specialise in), however it could also be concluded that if they sell the same products at all, they are a competitor...

Is it wrong for me to say that maybe they have made a rod for there own backs here? I mean in a nice way I'm new but people with far greater post history still cannot access the classifieds what's that about??

Uh?

I see. It's because classifieds are really good fun for scammers. Restricting new accounts and those that hardly contribute is a good way of reducing the appeal of the Member's Market to scammers - most simply do not see it as worthwhile to wait that long and post that much just to shaft someone.

Cheers for the reply mate, although I'm new Im planning on sticking around seen as I'm building my 1st rig and there is loads of info on here, so I guess I have 1000 or so more posts to make lol : )

To return to topic, "complete listings" as a couple of people have already suggsted. I enjoy this featuer, as I look to see what the least someone has paid is and then try and do better. :)

No worries. The Members Market is great, definitely worth sticking around for!

eBay wouldn't work half as well if it weren't for completed listings. Without it I would be quite lost when coming to selling!

Be aware that completed listings are manipulated so that lower than average ones don't show up. You're better off watching a load of listings and seeing what they finish at.

Have you got proof of this? Or is it just a bit of anecdotal stirring?

I have never noticed this before and have seen cheap auction results as well as expensive ones show up.

Try it for yourself, watch a load of auctions and see which ones actually show up if you search for completed listings!
