Urgent Help! Has my CPU been damaged?

Hey guys, just starting to build my PC. Put the CPU in and lowered the lever, waiting for the bracket to come out. Once it got to the bottom it popped out and I was left with these marks on the CPU!

I think he means the code etched onto the heat spreader. It's either a very poor troll attempt or he thinks he's damaged his cpu.

Or, and perhaps more likely, my eyes are terrible and I just can't see the marks
 
Maybe it's just because I'm on a high res IPS, but it's the black lines (only one is really visible at the right side after the writing) coming from top to bottom.

You have no idea how relieved I am to hear you say that. I might have already been there, but the plastic cover never popped off properly when I pulled down the lever, and on the underside of the plastic cover there's 2 thin 1cm bits of plastic that come out of the bottom of it that I thought may have scraped along the processor. Hopefully everythings fine, but I don't even have a mouse and keyboard yet to properly test! Just installing the PSU and then the cooler and then I'll try and boot.
 
Id be more worried about pin damage or board damge underneath,if there is no visible damage about,i would put the heatsink on and fire it up and check temps

You're supposed to remove the plastic socket cover before you push the lever down, it just clips off. It won't have damaged it though from the sound of it.

You're supposed to take off the plastic cover before hand.

Ah it's just every video I've watched says keep the cover on, and the manual says it too:


It's my first ever build, so pretty nervous. Just got the PSU hooked up so figuring out what cables go where, then I'll get the cooler on and try it.

Ah ok. I've never done it that way he does in the video. As long as you've put the CPU into the socket it's fine to take the plastic cover off, and it easily clips off. Since you have to remove it anyway that seems simpler to me.
 
It boots. Thank ****. First build getting ready to hit the power button is a nervous affair. Unfortunately I have no mouse or keyboard or hard drive, so that's as far as it goes now!

Glad to hear, Hit the button on your first build is always scary.

My first build i hit the power button and nothing happened, abolutely nothing..

Then i plugged the mains lead in. :)
