Play .MKV HD to WDTV via Win7

Hi, wasn't sure where to post this.

I have a HP Microserver running Windows 7, I mainly use it to play HD .MKV video files straight to my TV via a GPU with onboard sound and use XBMC to play the files.

Now I would like to be able to access the video files in a another room using a WD TV Live as well.

Will having the microserver and WD:TV plugged into a router that does NOT have a gigabit connection work? I know when I transfer the .MKV files from my PC to the server it's very slow like 11mbs.

Also will the WD:TV be compatible with playing the .MKV files from Win7?

yeah that will work.

you may get buffering on occasions but on the whole it should be fine.

100Mb/s link should be fine for two simultaneous streams.

Yes, the WDTV should be compatible. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330

You can use http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo to find out codec information, etc.
