My first cruise review - Liberty of the Seas

I'm guessing it's kind of tricky to stock and run consistent shops on board, so they rather do the flash sales, sponsored events and such in the evening. Besides, shopping is intended at the various cities you visit, it's not like most hotels/resorts of loads of shops. ;)

There is this hotel I want to stay at in Hong Kong.

http://hongkong.langhamhotels.com/

It is attached, like instead of getting out of the ground floor, you get out on the 2nd floor, take a left, walk like 10 metres....you get to this.

http://www.langhamplace.com.hk/en/#/shopping/guide/grid scoll down.

In theory you can stay there, shop, eat, go to the cinema (and even go down to the underground subway), all without stepping foot outside on the pavement.

Although to be fair, practically every big name hotel in Hong Kong is attached to a shopping centre and they are then attached to another shopping centre so it is not exclusive to that one.

Nice review :). Was on the Celebrity Constellation a few years ago for a 14-night cruise and it was nice, but the wrong cruise line for me.

Currently planning to get married onboard the Allure of the Seas in October 2014 - that's not proving to be cheap though!

Why do people want to go on holiday to shop?!

Because people like different things.

Some people like to explore history and culture, some like active adventure holidays, some like shopping sprees in foreign cities, some like beach/pool laziness, etc.

Why care what other people like to do on holiday? :p

I get your point, but there are times when you're out at sea for 2-3 days at a time, and the lack of variation stands out.

I always make a point to get off the ship whenever possible, but after a week on board you start getting bored of it IMO.

Krooton likes to relax, do nothing for a week on holiday. :)

It's not really about the shopping, I actually buy very little on holiday, the reference was purely a rebuttal on his statement that not many hotels has loads of shops.

I like to make use of my time, see places and do stuff, take pictures, eat food at places I've never been to, or new places, or famous places. So a cruise isn't for me as I would be bored out of my mind within about 3 hours on that place once I've walked around a bit.

If I were on one though, I would choose one that doesn’t dock in an industrial area, and choose a cruise that dock in city harbour. I want to see places and the cruise would be the transport that get me there, not the destination of the entire trip. Whether Europe is on my door step it's not really the point, the point is I am now in that city or on the edge of it, it would be rude not to go explore. I am not one of those people who goes to New York, then not go up Empire State building because it costs $25 to ride up an elevator for a view. I have made it all the way over there, it is silly not to take that last step, the only obsticle is the small fee.

You are on the edge of Rome or any other cities, go to Rome ! It might cost you a taxi ride but it would cost you 10x times more if you want to go there again on a plane.

How was your comms and internet on there?

Company I currently work for (for the next 9 working days)does the VSAT system......

krooton I'm into trance like yourself, what was the club like? did it stay open late or is it limp wristed?

Would dig to go on a cruise with adults and just party (at night and relax during the day) but I fear if they had a cruise like this it would be just party party party - I must be getting old

Looks awful. Can't think of much worse.

It's something the Mrs has always fancied doing as her parents go on lots of cruises. I've never really fancied it, it looks like I expected it to. Claustrophobic and inhibiting.

Better than camping :p

Looks awesome, I always enjoyed going on overnight ferries when on family holidays as a child, exploring the boat and generally having a wander.

Always been interested in cruises but never really looked into them in much detail.

Very slow, and very expensive, lol. Not worth bothering with, I think something like 15 minutes cost me $10.

No idea, I was usually in bed by the time the club opened, haha. They had some scratch DJ Schuller, but it was all dancey remixes of pop songs. But then I never expected the club to be anything worthwhile, just a place to go drink and boogie if you are a night owl.

Depends on your itinerary really. We only had 1 sea day out of the 7, but I know Southampton sailings take 2 days at the start and end to get in/out of the Med.

I'm tempted by a Norwegian Fjords cruise, there is an 8 night one and in terms of scenic views it looks amazing.

Azamara would suit you better than, it's more like a 5 star mini-hotel that transports you to interesting places and lets you explore properly. :)
