Hi all,

Im needing to replace the front tyres on my Civic as they have warn low. Now the rears have loads of tread left but the sidewalls are starting the crack / dry out. They where both made in July 2009 so are a good 4 years old now.

Will they be safe still or is it worth getting these changed at the same time?

Thanks!

Depends how perished the rears are, it may just be superficial.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to work out the year of manufacture (which can be different from when they were purchased - they could be old stock sat in a warehouse for 5 years before purchasing ) from the information on the tyres but i can't remember how exactly.

I'd be surprised a 3-4 year old tyre would perish that quickly unless it's spent a lot of time in a hot country, I know my old man puts covers on his camper van tyres (spain) if it's going to be parked up for any length of time because the sun out there can do some damage.

What make of tyre is it? How badly cracked does it look?

I got the date from the tyre itself. The make of them is something ive never heard of and where on it when I got the car in Jan, Tracmax F106! The height of quality I imagine

The cracking is visible and has started a little in between the tread. It seems to be cracking more where the tread meets the sidewall.

They're not Dunlop SP2030s are they? The ones on my insight developed cracks in the tread after only a couple of years. Honda were replacing them under warranty on some cars due to early cracking. I understand there were some bad batches made in 2009.
