hello whats anyones thoughts on this card???

Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 OC

what im looking to find out is can you get a full cover water block for it and how well does it cope with the latest games in 1080p??

thnx to anyone who replies in advance

Itll handle 1080p no probs and its got an excellent warranty. If you dont want to overclock or watercool go for the Gigabyte WF 7970 as I cannot speak more highly of a card but like arc just said the MSI seems to be the way to go for aqua power with most of trhe guys and girls round these parts :D

thinkg is i dont have a choice, i have been offered one in exchange for my own cards and that was the model and i wasnt sure whether to take up the offer or not only plus point is that my own cards dont ahave a full cover waterblock for them and going by the model number the 7970 does.

Got one of these, it's built like a tank very nice card, but they are voltage locked now as has been said. but it clocks a little 1050+ core 1500 mem so not all bad

Hi, This card is a non reference design and no full cover waterblock is available at the present moment. Blue pcb rev 2.1

A few people have used Universal waterblock and copper forged heatsinks and some cool the mosfets with a universal block.

better off selling card and starting again but make sure you know what card and revision you are buying so you can check if there is a waterblock available.

hope this helps

Good card but voltage locked. I'd go for the MSI one.

If he means this Gigabyte 7970?

Then its not voltage locked, that is the unlocked version with voltage control, hence the extra price. Solid card, good cooler.

However if i was you id get this HIS 7970. Its cheap, has full voltage control and overclocks like a champ, cooler is decent as well.

I had one of those cards and it is voltage locked, ALL new Gigabyte 79x0 cards are voltage locked at a hardware level. The extra cost is because it is the GHz edition that is clocked to 1100MHz and locked at 1.25v. The non GE edition is locked at 1.175v and would be pretty much useless for overclocking, especially for someone planning to fit a water-block.

Another thing the OP needs to be careful off is that water-blocks are almost always designed to fit reference cards, not custom cooled cards. The OP should get the exact model number and check if a water-block exists.

If it is one of the original models or an older reference card than it may well be voltage unlocked.

Furry muff. Its possible to get full voltage control with a bios flash though using one of Kabooms custom bios.
