Hi all,

I have rebuilt a PC out of some old parts, but feel I need to upgrade some bits n bobs. Bang for buck I am thinking, though it may go onto a better build in future if it gets a lot of use.

The current spec.

Asus P5QL-VM EPU motherboard.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13Ghz CPU. (Stock cooler)
Corsair PC2-6400C5 2x2GB memory.
Samsung HD502HJ 500GB F3 HDD.
Windows 7 64bit.
Hiper TypeR 480w non modular PSU. (Molex everywhere and only two sata power )
Silverstone TJ08B-E MicroATX case.

This is going to be used by one of my sons, Minecraft mainly, then maybe put together as an experimental server using Amahi and some old HDD's when they are freed up.

I think I need a better PSU, to be honest, as quiet a PSU as possible, and preferably under 160mm in depth? Modular is a bonus.
There is a possibility it may receive a GPU, but I doubt it will ever be more than an HD-5750 or GTX-660, both of which have a single 6 pin. But it may end up with up to 6 Sata II devices to power up.

I would like the quietest 120mm case fan for the case rear, I have an Apache that sounds like a full blown hairdryer as the mobo has no chassis fan control.
And a PCIe 2.0 x1 or PCI wireless card? Something that offers better connection than the TP-Link and D-Link USB adapters I currently have.
Maybe a silent 775 CPU cooler, as I doubt it will ever have a CPU exceeding 65w.

So any recommendations on,

Power supply.
Very quiet 120mm fan.
PCIe 2.0 x1 or PCI wireless card.
Very quiet 775 CPU cooler.

Buy a 2nd hand Q6600 & a decent cooler & clock the **** off it.

What would be the point? :)

It is only intended as a cheap re-use of old parts for my son to play minecraft on for a couple of months. And also for me to give Amahi a go and see if a server serves me better than W7 home networking.
I may consider an i3 4330/MSI Z87M-G43 set up for a budget GTX-660 gaming rig or server, IF this project proves useful.

I will give up on the 6 sata connections, and not bother with a rear fan on this build, tried it yesterday without and it's fine.

Found an old Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler which I will reuse.

That leaves the PSU as the most immediate requirement, I will get a Corsair or Be-Quiet 430w model.

As for Wireless network cards, the Asus PCE-N15 300Mbps or TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band models both look good.

I currently have the TP-Link N600 Wireless Dual Band USB adapter and Virgin Media SuperHub (Both my USB adapters give me around 30MB wireless connection on a 120mb package, 126MB wired). What sort of improvements would the above network cards provide?
