Triple SLI GTX780....is it worth it?

Well you won't notice the 3rd card in the vast majority of games. You will be generating more frames than you can use with a 60hz monitor @ 1080p. Perhaps Crysis 3 you might see a benefit. I actually think the 2nd 7970 may also be overkill.

If you can generate ~100fps then a 120hz monitor really shines, the motion becomes more fluid and very buttery smooth. But a lot of those frames are simply going to waste with a 60hz monitor.

If you've only got a 60hz monitor, then the maximum frame rate you need is 60 FPS because the monitor can only refresh the image, ie change what's on it, 60 times a second. Thus, any frames over this you don't see. It can actually cause a decrease in visual results having more frames then the monitor can display as you could be seeing every other frame that's being output, very simplified example but I think I'm correct in what I'm saying in principal.

If the two Asus cards ever turn up, which I very much doubt at this point they will, I'm not sure if I'll keep with the GTX680 4GB I got yesterday or use the two GTX780. Maybe one GTX780. Just been playing SimCity for the first time in months, and even a small startup city was consuming 100% of the GPU processing power. Need to push things to see if this becomes problematic.

I only play f1 2012 and fifa 2013 at the moment so one 7970 is fine, but there is a massive amount of awesome games just around the corner and i want to get the most out of them.
So maybe the way to go it an extra card and a 120hz monitor?
