At what age does one become middle aged?

Average male dies at what, 75? So young 0-25, middle 26-50, old 50-75. :-)
Adjust numbers to suit your family's genetic survival rate.

Which just makes me old. I hate my definition. :-)

I'm not keen on your definition either :p

Family history suggests I'll die at 56 (9/10 ancestors on the male side die at or before this age), so at 44 I'm already well past middle age!

''When your memories become more important than your dreams''.
I think that sums it up, although I wouldn't class myself as middle aged quite yet.

46. When I have my birthday next month middle aged will change to 47. I shall never reach middle aged under this system.

Wise words, I just turned 46 in July so I believe it is 47 but I also believe with modern health standards it moves up by 1 year per year.

If you onliy live until you are 40, then 20 is middle aged. I'm 48, and I seriously doubt I will make it to 96 (why would I want to!) so I am well past middle age IMO...

Thinking about it 40 as 80 is a good age to live to.

But saying this my grandma is 83 and still goes out almost every day into town, close towns/cities, loves her drink, enjoys football, F1 etc. and comes on holiday with us (Portugal in ~3 weeks)

Yes a night on the town or Ibiza is off the cards but still goes out a lot, restaurants and all the above

I would say, it is when you realise that you are doing exactly what your parents would do in any given situation. When you look at yourself and realise that you look older than your parents did when you were a child.

Fortunately, I've not reached that point... yet..

If you're a man and either straight or bi, you're middle-aged when you see a woman out in town at night half-dressed as is the norm and your first thought is "I bet she's cold".

My neighbor at home has a teenager, she is the same age as me (28) I dont think I'm middle aged

I'd move the age up a bit...maybe you're middle-aged when your child(ren) get into the driver's seat and you get into the passenger seat :)
