Google-Motorola "X Phone" in the 2013 pipeline?

Shame that motorola still suck with their camera software optimisation :o :( Hopefully it will get an update soon to vastly improve the quality like what happened with the htc one, lumia 920 etc.

Apart from that, I still really like the device overall.

A bit disappointing that the camera doesn't seem to be living up to it's promise. Hopefully Moto can work on it with software updates.

The phone is the perfect example of what can be done with good software optimisation for battery performance and butteryness. Despite it's internals it ends up having the best battery life and smoothness of all the 'flagships' in it's class.

Just a shame they don't seem to have worked hard on the camera software at all. :(

So the camera isn't even that good

This really is a "meh" phone then. Absolutely nothing exciting except a few cosmetic features like customisation.

Do not want and with moto looking likely to produce the nexus 5 I can't see anything to get excited about there either. Looks like the Galaxy 5 might still be on the cards for me as my next mobile.

I very much doubt Moto will be producing the Nexus 5. I don't think Google have them ready for that yet and it would pee off their partners if they did because it would look like Moto is getting special treatment over the others. I bet its one of the reasons why Moto X didn't ship with 4.3

Personally, I really want Sony to do the Nexus 5

Moto X Update Dramatically Improves Camera Quality - AnandTech

I have to say that the changes Motorola makes to the Moto X with this update are nothing short of the biggest I’ve ever seen come across in an OTA update.

It seems like the camera just had insanely bad software optimisation on release. It's a shame Google and Motorola seem to always get it wrong at first. It seems this new tech they are using can be pretty good after all. The new pics look pretty impressive!

There are rumours that a non US made cheaper Moto X may surface towards the end of October. Seems likely that this one will come out over here. Anyone interested at the right price?

Well mine is on the way here right now :)

And to all the speculation on HTC/Sony doing a Nexus... not this year unfortunately, pretty much confirmed to be LG again based off the Optimus G2.

How you finding it matt?

Really hope moto don't completely gimp the version we get :( The leaked photos of the casing for that version look pretty cheap :o

Camera looks absolutely stunning since the latest update, as expected! Shame none of these companies can get the software right for release day/reviews and just goes to show that you never base too much on any review now :(

It is also a shame that moto aren't proving to be much quicker with their software updates either despite having more or less a completely stock android experience, lack of bloat and google behind them......

The phone is lovely, build quality is really really good, feels very solid.

The screen is really nice, I really don't notice any difference between this and a 1080p screen in about 95% of usage scenarios.

Battery is great, easily as good as my S4.

Software is also very stock, like really really stock with a couple of tasteful additions such as motorola assist which I think figures out when you're driving but in terms of the stock experience you have:

Stock dialler
Stock contacts
Stock notification area
Stock launcher

etc etc etc.

The other small additions are really cool so the active lockscreen is epic, its very subtle as it breathes at you with the time and any notification which you can then go straight into and take action on from the lock screen without having to swipe or anything. Its also clearly tied to the accelerometer so when you pick up the phone or move it or whatever it tells you the time and what notifications you have without you having to wake the whole screen.

I'm sure that is part of the reason the battery is pretty good, I can find out everything I need to know just by tapping on the screen when its sleeping, that senses movement, shows me what I need to know then goes back to sleep.

The always on listening thing right now works great but I'd say is a bit gimmicky but then I've always thought that about voice commands, part of the attraction of the phone is that I can do what I want to do silently (oo-er) but it is very effective, it definitely only knows my voice and probably 80% of the time it gets what I've said word for word. If nothing else its handy to settle debates at home "OK google now, how tall is..." etc etc and your phone can be on the other side of the room and you get your answer without having to get up.

In terms of updates I guess thats down to the fact that motorola and google aren't at all integrated. Motorola is a google company and clearly there's a small partnership but I think you'd all be surprised to find out how silo'd they are.

Also with regards to updates, yes there's 4.3 but they launched on 4.2.2 and the fact there hasn't been an update in the states probably has more to do with the crazy carriers there.

Moto aren't going to gimp anything, people need to stop thinking they have really any say in whats on sale in this country. If you don't get the Moto X, or you get it and it's crazy expensive, or you get a lower specced version) called something else..

Thank O2, thank Vodafone, thank carphone.. trust me it's not for the want of trying on Motos part, they're certainly trying to sell their wares but I'd guess there's some push back from the retailers but then there would be, the last time they had any success with a motorola was the V3.

Overall though, if they kept making phones like this then they could easily go toe to toe with HTC/Sony for that 3rd place. Taking on Samsung isn't down to specs or devices anymore, they've unfortunately achieved their own momentum like Apple.

Nice, sounds like an excellent device  what about the camera?

True those last few paragraphs there :( We will just have to wait and see.

The camera looks ok, I haven't got the update to the new software and to be honest I've no idea if I ever will as it's a handset that was supposed to be for a US network I don't believe there is a global unlocked variant.

Looks like the low cost international version is starting to be spotted. Will need to wait and see exactly how much of the phone remains the same as the Moto X.

Looks familiar :)
