US: Falling Skies (Spoilers!)

Echoing what most people have said really - S3 finale (and TBH most of the season) was a big disappointment :(

The end of S2 was epic and I can't believe the people who wrote that had anything to do with the dross that was S3. I don't think I'll be watching S4!

I was under the impression that this volm weapon was quite big then when it comes to use it its some small thing thieve mounted on a boat. then to top it off its got the firepower of a wet fart.

I'm sure a rocket launcher could have done the same amount of damage

Yea it looked massive when it was under ground I had the impression it was designed to shoot from earth into space and stop any reinforcements coming

Although on the second shot there seems to be a volm guy stood on it which makes it look smaller.

but are the other people I circled supposed to be like a mile away from the gun?

It look like they only took the barrel part of the gun onto the boat really so why build all the other structure? and wheres the power coming from on the boat if the rest of it is missing?

BTW did the volm ever where those battle suits they came to earth in ever again? I don't remember seeing any

I was really late to this and just watched 3 series back to back.

I've really enjoyed it as some pretty dumb sci-fi TV, and for a while it looked to have some real promise - but a few episodes into S3 it was starting to feel really drawn out and lacking in direction. A lot of the individual episodes are definitely getting weaker.

Will definitely watch S4, but fully expecting this to follow the standard model for 'successful' US TV - commission short first series, wait to see if popular, increase budget, dilute storyline to drag out show as long as possible, recommission new series until viewing figures drop, wrap up show with weak ending.

Was an utterly terrible season. It started off badly with them just jumping forward 7 months and got worse. The whole baby thing was shameful. I would say this will be VERY lucky to get another season..

I would say this will be VERY lucky to get another season..

It's already been renewed... and being expanded to 12 episodes *facepalm*

I have to agree that it really doesn't deserve another season though. You see so many scifi shows come and go over the years that have fantastic writing yet don't make it past the first season or 2, then you have things like this that have a poor first season, better second then complete rubbish for a third, yet still get renewed.

No doubt i'll still give it a chance if only because of season 2 but i dread to think how the next one will turn out if they don't shake up the writing staff.

Yeah I know its a joke really. As you said there have been some great series that never got past the first season and they were a lot better than the tripe that was regurgitated in this latest season. I am all for a bit of outthereness but some of the stuff in the last few eps was utterly stupid. Main character jumps of a high tower that's made up of alien tech and junk metal with only a skitter between him and the ground and he survives??? And then gets out of "apparently" one of the most guarded alien strongholds with no problems. Then they manage to get the goody alien weapon within a small distance of said tower with no resistance whatsoever.. Just sloppy sloppy writing.. And please do not get me started on Alien babies that grow into an adult within weeks and I be she ends up saving the frikkin planet as well.. JEEZ 80s V Much???

Haha yeah, every time the alien baby thing pops up in shows I always groan and wonder whether writers think that just because V is iconic they have to do it too. Even the 4400 did it but at least they had better writing on their side.

Funny you should mention 'outthereness' I was just thinking of Farscape, they took it to a whole other level with season 3 but did it well :p

LOL That's funny.. I am currently watching Farscape again! Almost at season 3 :D

But again that was a show that had really high ratings, a great writing crew and a huge following and they canned that and their worst episode was 10x better than the best ep of Falling Skies. Even Tru Calling and Dollhouse were better than some of the rubbish storylines on Falling Skies.. Its a pity as it did show potential through the second season but the 3rd was a turd.. lol.

I liked Tru Calling and Dollhouse a lot on the first run through but after rewatching i came to the conclusion it was the actors i liked way more than the actual stories. Eliza Dushku just because.. well how could you not? :p and the rest of the Whedon posse who popped up all over Dollhouse.

IF they shake things up enough then it could be good as the premise is decent enough and some if their actors are good. I'd get rid of Pope and Weaver though, neither have added much and get too much screen time. Pope could have been a decent character but they've wasted that with the tripe they've put out so far.

Yeah definitely getting more and more cringe-worthy writing towards the end.

I'm usually pretty happy to let things go, but eventually it gets to a point where all the good points have totally disappeared.

One of the worst bits for me was when the Mason family get ambushed in the woods and get their horses stolen. They then find the house of the folks who attacked them - cue almost an entire episode of 'we've got you hostage, oh no wait a minute you've tricked us and now we're hostage, but it's ok cos we've got another plan and now we're back with the guns .....'

It was almost like a spoof comedy.

^^^^^ I agree, that episode was very tedious.

For me it was the next to last episode where the aliens had destroyed the mountain base where the super weapon was being held / constructed and it was then buried under tons of debris. All the scientists working on its development were killed.

Then fast forward to the final......

Somehow the weapon then magically appears to have been dug up, finished and shrunk to about the tenth of its size and somehow transported to knock the leg of a big thing, when it was designed to overload the energy field surrounding the planet.

When I watched the last episode I really did think that I had missed one before it.

And how did James Wilson begin to understand and read / work with the technology that ended up as potent as a rather simple rocket launcher, which seemed to need to recharge for ten minutes between shots.?!

The whole of series three just got more and more cringe worthy for me.

So many other worthy TV series get dropped and yet I see that this one seems to be continuing for another run. Not sure if I'll bother though.
