I know, I apologies for the copy and paste headline and the news feed style thread. Not normally my thing to post threads like this.

But after browsing imgur, seeing a particular image then doing some searching, I'm truly taken back and disturbed something like this is happening regularly and openly in Russia. A place I was hoping to visit one day.

I don't know much about the whole background but seeing that Putin has passed the laws discussed in the article, it's very sad. Realistically no one really has any power to change anything.

I'm a straight man but I am 100% open to the gay culture, my best friends and most of my close friends through college and most of life are all gays. So naturally being around gay people is nothing out of the ordinary for me. And being very close friends with both male and female gay people. I know the terrors they have had to endure from scum like those in this video. Only a few years back a bunch of guys were jumped on by a group of kids outside a carpark of the Granby in Reading. I was there that night and got hit a few times trying to break it all up.

Anyway, I'm most certainly avoiding Russia now as I wouldn't want to find my self in a situation like these poor kids after a local finding out my pro gay views.

What a shame and not something someone should go through just because of their attraction to a particular sex. Love is love regardless of how it's expressed.

My personal view is I don't agree with the practice of homosexuality BUT there is NO excuse for violence or abuse against gay people, or anyone for that matter.

And people think that the UK is racist or in any way descriminatory. Compared to 98% of the world it is a bastion of freedom

I agree, I almost got lynched by a mob because a chap who joined me on a little adventure to India's biggest waterfall was wearing a blouse.

Long story, I mentioned in the hostel to him that if he fancied joining me on a 2 day trip to the middle of no where to see these waterfalls he would be more than welcome as it cuts traveling costs in half etc.

He had bought some cotton clothes due to the heat being too much for him in his normal 'adventure' clothes.

We arrived in a town with a bus depot, no one was really helpful and we kept getting looked at and laughed at. Thinking nothing of it as this town was not somewhere that a tourist goes. They were just confused and laughing at 2 6'2" tall white guys. Laughing back with them and taking a few pictures. The crowd started to get thicker.

It got a bit overwhelming and we started to push people back gently laughing things off until hands started to grab our arms and pull us all over.

One young India, who clearly idolised the west with his dress sense looked at me and shouted "you 2 together?". Nothing thinking I said yes and tried explaining where we wanted to go. But he interrupted me with a gesture I did not want to see...

"You 2... Die" as he said that, he swiped his finger across his throat. The ball had hit, the guy I was backpacking with had long hair, a flowery blouse looking top on and I said we were together!

The young man shouted "GAYS! GAYS!!! DIRTY GAYS!!". The crowd got rather intense and I reached into my bag and thankfully, I had porn on my phone. I struggled to get it playing and I held it up shouting "WE LIKE GIRLS, WE LOVE LADIES, NOT MEN! WE ARE NOT GAY!".

Thankfully a few men understood and the words started to spread and it slowly calmed down and we got a taxi out of there!

Luke and I had never been so terrified haha. Still speak to him and Luke learnt his lesson. Don't buy flowery stuff from tourist shops!

Although the story is depressing, this passage is hilarious.

Given that this is against the law in Russia, I am not sure why you're acting as though this is Russia's fault, as opposed to the thug perpetrating the crime. I have no doubt whatsoever that this crime would be punished under Russian law.

Opposition to the gay agenda does not mean you are in favour of the torture of gays. I know the gay lobby will claim otherwise, but they are wrong.

Oh a few beers and many laughs were had over the whole story. It was just shocking to see how intense and aggressive the crowd became once they had this notion that we were together in a sexual way.

I will try and find the name of the town.

Wut

Two men were arrested in Volgograd in May for the murder of a homosexual. Having laws that suppress the promotion of homosexuality is not the same as saying you can brutalise and murder someone because they are gay. There is a huge difference.

That's because it was a murder not because the guy was gay. Russia really don't give a damn about homosexuals, it's been pretty well documented over the last few weeks.

That is precisely my point. Murdering and assaulting people is illegal in Russia, irrespective of the victims sexuality. You don't get a pass because your victim is gay. Which is precisely what I said in my original post.

But the point is Putin is almost saying it's acceptable to single gays out and punish them for their life style.
