6 month workout review and couple of questions

No, you seem to have a pretty good understanding of it.

His problem is that the ONLY value he has is in his programme, and that's incredibly basic and completely borrowed from other places.

i swear the base for his routine was starting strength 3x5? he just added 2 extra sets, but from what i know the original SL5x5 has chinups and some other exercises in it but he removed them so people don't get the idea that "Adding isolation etc exercises is ok at the start"

It depends on your goals really. If you want to get stronger I'd go with Stronglifts, if your want to refine what you've already got go with his routine or something else more orientated towards bodybuilding :)
Ok - if I am being honest with myself I am doing this for mainly vain reasons. In order of what is driving me:

1) Body image
2) (And in turn) Self confidence
3) Strength
4) General fitness

Therefore, I'd be inclined 'towards bodybuilding' exercises which is what I thought I was following w/ Gordy's thread. However, I'll revaluate based on feedback here.

People have said I shouldn't be coming up with my own programme. What should I use?

SL 5 x 5

with proper cardio on rest days

Thanks all. I'll give that SL 5x5 a spin. I will also make a log, not sure about pics though ;)

I forgot to mention - I don't lock the smith machine when I use it, and the barbell is not counterbalanced (does this even make it a smith machine? It's what the instructors call it at the gym). I can move forwards, backwards just not side to side.

Edit: Max Rack "3D" Smith:

In any case I'll switch to free

The "side balance" you will have to do doing free weights will help you build all those stabilisation muscles.

I did OK with SL 5x5 as a starter routine, it's simply - easy to learn & doesn't take that long.

How are you with squatting?.

Then you should get on fine with SL5x5 :).

For some reason mobility issues & general fear of squatting seems really common (in the people I know personally who lift, I think I'm the only squatter).

Studied sports or PT are you deluded why would I study one of them courses when I'm doing economics at a top uni, but moving on where's my questions which I post please direct me to them. I do my own research and reading so I would say I know a bit, your whole post is flawed and full of bs as non of what you said is true. The only thread I really hang around in is the supplements thread as apart from Freefaller no-one is really clued up with accurate info, so it's got to be found on knowledgeable sites

More crap and I'm not the only one who's picked up on your "advice"

Just a small snippet of the brilliance I was referring to.

But well done on getting into a top university, come back when you've graduated and made it into the real world.

Should have posted this earlier, I would have insta-blocked him :D

If you ask me I think you need to do Stronglift 5x5 for the next 3-4 months and then add in some isolations and whatnot later.

Your strength is very low for 6 months and your weight and Stronglift will give you the confidence and the progression that I think you need.

I missed a lot of the posts after reading some troll stuff.

Hope this helps / gives you a new avenue to explore

And I can speak from experience that Stronglift helped me along the way from being a real skinny guy to someone who can hold their own in the gym these days. Most notable changes initially was thickening of my lower back.
