I am off to visit friends this weekend and they are thinking of a new TV.

Currently they have a couple of 50" Kuros and a I think if I remember correctly a Panasonic 55" VT25

As you can guess, they aren't short of a few bob but are not techy's. They just like quality gear.

What would be the logical step up?

They'll just want a TV (no projectors) and I imagine up to 65". It will be for skyhd, HTPC and the odd blu-ray. No 4k's etc are required

I don't have a budget but based on their current gear, you get the idea.

Thanks

Depending on the model of the Kuro anything new could potentially be a step down. The ZT series of Panasonic plasmas would be the only thing close to them.

I would like to see Kuro compared with the new plasma/led/oled.

Knowing someone who has a Kuro i do find them not so great any more now things have moved on so I would say the high end Panasonic plasmas are better feature and picture wise from what I have seen.

VT65 (£2K+) or ZT65 (£4K+)

are the only step ups from the Kuro, in fact the panel they both use is nicknamed the "kuro killer" funnily enough.

imo the VT65 is the better use of money as there is only a small difference between both sets, therefore the ZT65 imo is a waste of money, even though it is the better set.

the VT20 (i assume as i dont think there was a VT25) however has many different tv's you could call better, i assume even a ST60 (£1K) would be better than a VT20.

newer plasma's offer so much more than the deeper black's of the kuro's.

plus you cannot buy kuro's brand new or for cheap, therefore anyone looking for a tv only really has 2 options these days, top end panny or sammy sets.

I'm not convinced there's any point replacing what they have already. Have they said what they want that they don't currently get?

They have just moved house so I am assuming it is either they have another room that needs a TV or they have a bigger room and want a bigger TV

Thanks for the advice. I imagine it would be the 65" VT65 then
