*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Well Sony's internal design for each of it's PS3 iterations has been working well for them (One thick heat spreader with pipes, honeycombs, and the singular massive fan, (Although I'm not too sure about the current Super Slim), even managing to cram in the PSU in there too, so you could see how they managed to get PS4's small size going, regardless of the much more powerful spec in it. The 360's internals were very much like a PC.

But yeah as said above, Sony certainly has the hardware business experience a lot more than Microsoft. I guess we'll just have to see once both consoles come out.

personally i dont think either console should suffer from heat issues, i say this because they say the ps4 gpu is just slightly better than a 7850 and now you can buy 7850's that are passively cooled, although this probs wont be the case with ps4 as it has a cpu on the chip too. the cpu is one of the latest low power things from amd. all the tech is like so new low powered, efficient and cool unlike the hot older gen. so hopefully both wont have any issues.

You are on the right lines, Apparently the ps4 runs cooler than the ps3 with cell etc. At least that is what was told somewhere shortly after E3, (More than likely neogaf) If that is the case it's a fairly simple job for Sony to package.

If you have ever taken a 360 and phat ps3 apart you would see Sony have the hardware design advantage.

The size of the thing worries me. People have been bashing the XB1 for overclocking the GPU, saying it will lead to over heating. But the PS4 has more power in a much smaller package. That just doesn't sit right with me. The exclusives look better on PS4, infamous looks truly orgasmic, but will it melt?

The PS3 seems to be doing fine and it looks like the PS4 will be using a similar cooling system. Besides, even if it does run hot it'll just do the obvious thing and ramp up the fan. It's not likely to overheat.

The Xbox One uses a virtually identical cooling set-up to the current 360. I don't see any reason to feel more confident about one than the other, they'll both be fine.

One of the Sony guys said the size and shape of the PS4 is dictated by the cooling and power requirements, rather than designing something first then having to cram all the components in.

I'd say because it's relatively small means that it's not expected to give off too much heat.

How does 8 core Jaguar compare to core 2 quad, performance wise ? I am wondering if I will be able to run next gen ports on my Q9650@4GHz?

With absolutely no information.. I'd say so. Still a fairly capable CPU, developers would be putting themselves out of the market if it couldn't run on something like that to be fair. Obviously depends on rest of spec.

never had any issue with any sony console in the past, all have been well built.

plus the fact sony make the vaio range of pc's and laptops, etc means they are well experienced when it comes to this sort of hardware.

anyone thinking sony's console will have design issues or cooling problems is seriously misguided.

the only problem i can find with the console is the lack of built in USB ports, 2 just simply isn't enough.

So he is believing someone that willingly ignores a legally binding contract?

Is a relative so I really do have no reason to say anything that is BS and neither does he, he did sign an NDA but anyone of the people there could break it, or Somy staff could be feeding BS, so who knows but 29th Oct would be good for everyone

If its not finalised at Gamscom next week, it'll be TGS next month. To be honest though, I doubt we'll see any new launch titles announced now, E3 was the time most devs would use to announce their games for the new consoles.

Tbh i'll be happy playing BF4 and Watchdogs for the next year or so :D

Hopefully GC will reveal the release date.

I don't know why, but I have this feeling that Watch Dogs won't live up to the hype. I'm looking forward to it, but I think it'll probably end up being an 8/10 when it gets reviewed. Not to say that's a bad game by any means, but GTA5 is likely going to spoil its reception somewhat if their world doesn't feel as alive and varied as Los Santos inevitably will.

I've watched a few different Watch Dogs gameplay videos and the whole cyber punk theme really appeals to me. If the gameplay is as good as it looks, and each mission has multiple ways you can aproach it because of the hacking element (which appears to be the case), I really think it could be a GOTY contender. Hopefully there is a great variety of side missions as that is often what makes or breaks open world games, irrespective of how good the main missions are.

I think Watchdogs will bring something a tad bit fresh onto this whole open world scene, i mean as far as hacking games go, what have we got, star trek next gen with spock? gunpoint? I really hope that Watchdogs delivers especially with it being on the ps4.

That said i really hope GTA V does extremely well too, it would be a great hurrah for the ps3 system to pave the way for its younger brother.

lets have some fun for a change, what are the specs of the ps4. now im not talking about the spec sheet but what are the actual specs of the cpu and gpu.

yes we have been told from various sources that the gpu is a cut down 7870 or some such but thats about it. and as for the cpu iv read reports stating its runs at anything from 1.6ghz up to 2.77gh for the latest dev boxes.

so anyone want to add to that at what the actual final specs maybe.

This is the spec sheet from Sony. Does not really give much gpu info away.

Games will no doubt look very similar on both systems. So I don't get why some of you like to spend so much time focusing on the specs.

In the end it'll all come down to the console's features and the games.
