Can i kill me neighbours dog if it attacks me or my family

Is an Alsatian really that hard to kill? Or are some owners mixing fantasy with reality on how unstoppable their dogs really are?

Surely a full fledged kick straight in the head would stun if not kill the mutt. all this talk of steel plated heads???. If not repeated punches and kicks to the body cracking a few ribs in the process, should see an end to it.

Besides OP, just have a decent garden tool to hand and always supervise your kids. No dog is going to survive a shovel or claw hammer to the head !

In short, yes. 'repeated punches and kicks' - you won't be repeatedly doing anything to a GSD that's intent on harming you unless you're bloody lucky, they're used as police and military dogs for good reason.

Fortunately, as well being very strong, they're very intelligent and obedient so the chances of one actually wanting to go for you are slim to none.

I have to disagree, a human is going to take a lot more hits from the dog than the dog is going to take from you.

I've been attacked by a GSD before, rightfully, so I didn't want to harm it, bear hugged it on the ground until it's owner came along.

why on earth are u thinking about killing a dog as first port of call, your fuged up beyond belief. theres a lot more ways of going about this then killing a dog AFTER breaking down your fence and killing your family.. have you been watching to much BBC news lately?

Yarwood you are agreeing with Kenai with your statement... His point states that you will not be able to repeatedly punch and kick the dog, which is true.

I agree if you're attacked by a police/mil GSD you're going to have a bad day, but if it's an untrained GSD with a reckless owner, then the dog is going to be stunned (not physically) when you start kicking back and you'd have far better chance of getting more hits in. Dogs bite, humans punch/kick. Unless it bites you in head then you're not going down quicker than the dog will.

Was thinking how to word that properly without looking like an idiot, so there's my best attempt :p

I think you are mistaking what the training police etc dogs receive, they are trained to NOT bite randomly and excessively, they are trained to stop someone effectively by not letting go and using their weight. Wild and untrained dogs on the other hand will just bite whatever part of you they can get at first.

I would be far more afraid of an untrained Alsatian, nothing but 40-50Kg of anger and teeth.

Its a dog, just wring its neck. Lol at all the dog owners here thinking the dog would have one up on a fully grown male.

Said by someone who has watched too many action films and thinks you can snap someone neck as easily as opening a bottle of coke.

There is a reason the Police and the Army use dogs.

My point was that police/mil dogs are more likely to have been in a Dog v Human situation before and will have, for want of better word, endurance, as you said, they won't let go.
An untrained GSD that attacks a human probably hasn't been in that situation before.

Was my fault, I was going to collect my caravan, the owner knew and I was under the impression they'd have locked the dog away. Half way through to the other fence, cue the barking, swiftly turned around to see dog coming, luckily for me the owner wasn't far behind. Instinct says run but 4 legs beats 2. To be fair on the dog, it was quite old and if it were younger I'd have been worse off.

For anyone curious about fighting a GSD just look on youtube, found one of a guy throwing bricks at a dog owner walking 2 GSDs, one dog goes back and he's down so quickly it's untrue, he only gets up again because the owner intervenes.
