Considering getting shot of my 04 plate Ibiza, looking at spending about 4k in total I've always liked the look of the Leons and fancy a bit more power.

What should I be looking for in a Leon at this price bracket?
Also I'm not 100% set on this car so suggestions of others are welcome :)

Prefer smaller cars but I think I might have to move up to a 5 door, just no boat size things please :p

£4k is the budget I'm looking at for my next car. Shame you prefer smaller cars, because there is a lot of really nice saloons with loads of kit you can get for your £4k.

But if you like the Leon, then the Cupra is a really good car I hear.

Not a big saloon, but also something I'll be looking at is the Mazda3 Sport, lots of toys for your money. Just excuse the stupid exhaust and foot pedals on this example...

My current car was almost a Mazda 3TS but the place I was buying it from was mucking me around :( I had even put a deposit on it got that back tho.

Quite tempted with a MPS but for 4k I'd be looking at a fairly old one.

My brothers are both suggesting various types of old model Astras.
What sort of Larger cars were you thinking?

Do not buy an Astra. End of story.

This.

I have mk4 SRI 1.8 at the moment (looking to get rid very soon), yes iv had no problem with it although i feel its not a lot for what some prices go for (by this im guessing your brothers have been looking at the GSI models). Basically the same car but a 2ltr turbo lump; unless red for this price. Then buy, buy buy :p

Previous car was a Mazda 3 Sport, the 2L one and in hatchback form. £4k should get you a decent one, aim for facelift if possible, they added a 6 speed gearbox and made a load of options (Xenons, Bose, Cruise) standard, so every one is well specced, it just comes down to the history and condition.

Not sure what the Leon is like for power but the 150 BHP of the Mazda was certainly enough for general driving, overtaking was fine and motorway cruising was comfortable. On average it returned ~33 MPG through a mix of driving, and a long motorway run could see 45 MPG if you were really being tight.

Also seats 4 fully grown people in relative comfort and the boot can take a few suitcases if needed.
