Just seen the trailer for the new Channel 5 series set in a women's prison in Australia: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x12wi2k_wentworth-prison-uk-trailer-channel-5_shortfilms

As I understand it, it's basically a remake of Prisoner Cell Block H. For the benefit of younger viewers this was a long running Aussie soap that used to air on ITV at about midnight. It also featured practically every Aussie actor and actress currently above the age of 40. As something of an insomniac in my teenage years, many hours were wasted watching this - once you got past the crappy sets and omg ugly women it was actually pretty good, even for a soap, so looking forward to this remake - certainly seems to be going for "gritty".
 
Bea Smith and The Freak - Wentworth was full of win. There I said it.

Many a late night watching it as a teen! I may take a ganders at this! :)

Edit: Wentworth is set in modern-day Australia and focuses on Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) when she first enters prison.[1] Bea is separated from her daughter and sent to Wentworth on remand, where she lives in "an uncertain limbo" until she is sentenced. Bea is then forced to learn how the prison works
 
heh.

I was another one that realy got into it. Late night tele was realy my thing in my teens, picked it up mid way through, right to the end when rita rode out on the bike.

After it was done i even watched the american esc version, as terible as it was. (till the end):(

That trailer doesn't look so bad, i just don't think i could ever go back:)

Tonight at 10 on channel 5, looking forward to seeing the new characters and how they compare to the originals. I wonder if Jock Stewart will make an appearance at sometime. He was a nasty piece of work....
 
By all accounts, it was received very well. Trending on twitter last night. Some good nods to the original and some hot lezza action to boot.

Definitley an upgrade on the inmates as well.

Had no choice, such a lightweight i gave in.:)

Still a fair way to go i think, the setup isn't all there yet. While we've seen the lags getting it on, where the screws go has yet to come to muster... The freak, the backstabber ect.

Bahh, ill be watching it again. No cardboard walls, miss the brown, no roses... but it's cell block h rerolled.

Enjoyed.

Not strictly true, the one in "the slot" was singing it when Bea went in there for the night! ;)

Enjoying it so far and the fact it's been renewed for a second season is a major plus in me continuing to watch!!! (hate it when something I love gets canned before it's had a chance!!!)
 
I'm a fan of the original series and i'm loving this.

Just watched episode 5 :D. Going to have a bit of a pause for cold showers/house move then get to watching the rest.

Joan "The Freak" Ferguson will be turning up in season 2.
