When we had macs stolen from the college I worked at, we provided the police with all their locations but by the time they bothered to look they had been moved on and then closd the case. The police then told us it was illegal for us to remotely connect to them due to data protect of the new owners. As they couldn't be bothered to do their job we still did, on one we manage to find out all his details from an insurance quote on the desktop lol

I remember our school had nothing to secure the iMacs, except a big shutter on the outside window, drawing attention to the room. But, the Mac mini's we had were all locked into cages in the desks

all new machines were secured with security cables to pianos there were on...pair of bolt croppers and road was clear ....

At least you had used something to help secure them, but they must have known what was securing them.

Insider information? Or just in expectation.

new machines were set in place on thursday and friday...
building was closed over weekend and they broke in first on saturday - to check if there is no one in (?)
came back on sunday.

they knew where to go...maybe they had some inside information...maybe they got lucky with new machines and were expecting only old ones ? hard to say...

girls from one of the departments added some extra heat saying they are missing 5 mac books pro....pulled all the strings and have located them and girls got proper telling off...

I don't think we really missed our, the guy in charge of the arts department bought them because "they looked nice". They ended up being glorified Youtube and Facebook machines for the students which I ended up blocking access to anyway lol

No cameras ? Get security cams installed as soon as you can. Disappointed.

in our case, those machines are used to the extent ;)

What college was this mate?

not sure this information is needed.

all machines had asset tags on them, so if they try to remove them, there should be marks on them...unless they know how to remove them - I dont...

I live in s-hole in central SE London. I get people offering me dodgey equipment / electronics constantly. You wanna be more vague feel free, I just won't bother asking questions next time someone offers me a nice shiney iMac.

The SE of London can stretch from Waterloo to Ashford for some people.
