*** League of Legends ***

I have to disagree cHk4, ime not having runes or masteries was really annoying so I used some of the free rp we were given at some point to buy a boost to get to 30 quicker but I'd played wc3 a lot and dota a bit way back in the mists of time so one's mileage may vary, too many people behave like children even at 30 and I doubt it gets any better in diamond/challenger from seeing the wobblers some streamers throw :)

It's just frustrating playing with people who dive into fight 2 higher level champs by themselves at their tower (and last about 2 seconds) or people who call jungle and are only at level 2 when everyone else is at level 6. I'd hope at least in ranked games people have some idea of how to play. I'm not saying I am a pro or anything, but years of rts games and good micro mean I can hold my own with my one chosen champ ( bought aatrox as someone a lot of low level players won’t have and have been doing well, I am going to start buying other champs with my saved up IP and branching out into different roles). I’ll keep plugging away and getting the xp without boosts.

One questions I have, when ever I need assistance or want to warn people I ping the map (no one pays any attention though). What frustrates me is when people just shout “Help!” in chat or “Aatrox help me”. Is there a quicker way of me finding out where they are on the map than going to the score board to find their name so I know what character they play and then find them on the mini map so I know where I am going? I don’t find it helpful when someone just shouts help I have no idea where to go to them, I feel I am missing something here.

That's what you get with experience :) But seriously the minimap shows the team and if someone calls for assistance it's usually straightforward to see what assistance is needed. regarding boosts, lol is not like rts games - you have to understand when you should be pushing a tower, how to last hit and not push the lane - why you do this. The importance of vision, a whole heap of things which after 3 years I still am learning.

I did the boosts when rp was cheap - 3 years on I still regret it :)

Well you can look at the character name next to theirs e.g. "s4r00mz (blitzcrank): most people learn that pinging is faster than typing after they die because their q wasn't working qqwqqqq"
But basically, watch the map and their health bars and usually you know straight away who's getting owned. That's my name on lol btw, feel free to add me, I'm pretty bad at this game though...

Aha. Mate everyone from bronze to gold is bad at the game. Even plat/diamonds can't always play perfectly. Think of it this way. Even the pro's have to improve to keep winning... So next time you mess up reflect on how the attempted play went badly and learn from it! It's what I've started doing as well as keeping my focus :p one day we will all be challenger! (well maybe a few)

there's a song you need to hear but I can't link YT on my phone, look up starcraft grandmaster, if you ever played sc/sc2 it's even better.

Is there some shortcuts im missing out on in LOL. Like when you see streamers and they ping the map, they dont seem to have to click the button above the map, then drag click depending on which type, so is there a quicker way to do this. Ive had it before as support where i see the gank coming but by the time i ping its too late due to a missclick or something daft.

Also what about leveling up an ability, is the only way to click the actuall icon in the UI? I could swear streamers dont seem to click that to do it.

Also when they do their rune pages they seem to somehow just be able to click in empty slots and the same rune they used previously will be placed. I seem to have to every one individually, which isnt an issue but wondered how they do it?

Do you guys tend to do this smartcasting stuff or just stick with the normal method? not sure if i should be trying to get the hang of it or not

Get into smartcasting if you want to play fast (which you should). Pings are on g and v by default, you can find all the key bindings in esc>key bindings. Sometimes I leave spells off smartcast like Ashe arrow, Janna tornado but that's because I want to think with them first. Play ezreal a lot for a week, you'll get the hang of it :)
Leveling skills is ctrl+qwer

For pings Ctrl click = careful. Alt click = ping types with drag to type. Using Ctrl + Assigned key for ability levels the ability up. I do smartcast it makes life easier once you know the champions cast ranges. You do get smartcast with range indicator which some pro's use so they can decide if they want to engage or not. Which is useful but I just tend to decide if I should or should not go in as the ability is being cast. Not always the best with hard intiates... but then currently I play thresh so if I don't want to go in I just don't press Q again xD

Cheers guys. Am i correct in saying that smartcast just omits the part where you would choose your direction and just casts in the direction of the mouse, much like vaynes roll for example?

I didnt realise you could just have it on certain abilities.

Yep. It's basically cast towards pointer. And for targeted abilities its cast on pointers location.

We're all obviously entitled to our own opinion and during my leveling to 30 I used to play with friends, which meant I went up against level 30 people all the time with full rune pages and I still wrecked face against them after I adapted to playing against those with runes, obviously I lost sometimes. Being at a disadvantage helps you learn, if you're steam rolling what do you learn?

I know totally what you're saying and I agree with it too but my real life friend and clan mates who are plat/diamond didn't buy any boosts and the ones I know who did are mostly bronze.

-edit-

Either way, let a player play 500 games with/without boost they're going to be at the same skill level so it doesn't really matter.

One more daft question as ive asked several times in game and not had an answer. When someone ask you to 'pull blue' or 'hard pull blue' are they simply asking you to help them with it? I dont quite get where 'pull' comes into it. In all situations i simply help with it and they never complain so im a tad confused.

pull is a relic from season 2 where the jungle creep aggression worked differently, basically it used to be that mobs would run towards the guy that hit them until they ran to the end of their aggro zone and reset or latch onto someone else attacking nearby. What would happen before is that for a blue start jungler you would stand behind the wall and hit blue so it would run towards you, leaving the jungler with about 5 seconds where he could hit it for free. It was also possible to kite mini golems with two people, getting them to continually re-aggro without hitting anyone. Look up some YT vids if you're curious, i liked the mechanic although it gave the blue team a huge experience advantage in bottom lane if they took minis

That was taken away with the new season and nowadays pull is meaningless, they do just mean "come punch this with me"

Yeh pretty much. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but basically a while ago the first person to damage the blue or red buff camp would get the agro which meant they could 'pull' the mob away from the jungler allowing the jungler to deal free damage without taking any from the mob.

A patch was introduced a while ago which changed this, the change meant that the mobs now attack the closest person doing damage to it (normally the jungler) however the term 'pull' is still used.

Hope that explains it?

You're correct, they removed the ability to "pull" jungle mods some time ago, some people just don't think before they type.

Yeah, thanks. Its had me confused since i started the game wondering if there was something else i was meant to be doing.
