living and moving to spain

magnolia, I am not pregnant at the moment :) but I have changed countries several times, so I guess it quite realistic for me, I am not expecting to move to spain, and earn the same money what I earn here. and trust me, any info helps, even if its in forum, I already got very use full link where I can talk to people who moved to spain. that's how you start, you start from scratch, you build your knowledge, then you can make a decision :)

Ok, I'll bite. My partner is Spanish.

(1) If you want a job in Spain then you'd have to be fluent in Spanish at a minimum or be really lucky and find a job in the ex-pat community. With the lack of jobs right now if you can't speak Spanish you're pretty much screwed - the Spanish look after their own and you'd have to be awesome to win over a local.

(2) If you can find a good job, or have a business idea that going to make you decent money, then there's no reason not to go. The weather is obviously great and quality of life and sense of community in most areas is fabulous as long as you involve yourself with the locals and don't isolate yourself in an ex-pat bubble.

All that's stopping us moving to Spain right now is the job situation and my Spanish still needs improving. We're working on a business idea we're hoping will mean we can move there as soon as I'm reasonably fluent.

covenantuk, thank you for your reply. I am just wondering how bad is that work situation actually is, I understand that it is no where near as good as in uk, but in my country job opportunities are also quite low for most of people, but I think that it is actually ok, you can find a job, and support yourself. and I hear what you saying about not isolating ourselves, this is the last thing I would want to do, I don't see the point, moving to another country and sticking to people that can only speak your language, that's why I would like to move somewhere where is not to many other foreigners :) I think you are very lucky to have the opportunity to move to spain with someone who knows the place and how everything works, of curse if you want too. I really hope it works out for you :)

You'll be lucky to get a job working in a bar in a tourist area.

I know people who have moved there with good steady jobs and basically ended up in menial **** positions renting a crappy house because there's not much of anything else out there.

Want to know how bad it is in Spain?

Unemployment rate = 26%
Youth Unemployment rate = 56%

Seriously, don't move there thinking you'll just "find a job". You might find a bar job during holiday season, but anything else will be really hard.
