Hi,

Currently working out a new PC to completely replace my old one. My starting point was this: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18529767 but after some thought I'm considering other options. One was this monster: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-368-OE

Now, few things -
1. Wont be building it myself, going to let some professionals do it for a change
2. Would be swapping out the 7990 for a Geforce Titan
3. Would be upgrading the SSD to a 250gb version

The main issue I have is that I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with watercooling so don't know if things need maintaining or risks etc so I'm a bit nervous about the watercooled beast that is currently seducing me. I'm guessing that system would be pretty silent? I would basically be putting a few of my storage SATA drives in and then leaving it be for a considerable amount of time (wife has seen the price....).

Guess what I'm asking is if this kind of setup is ok for a total novice who doesn't really want to get their hands dirty.

Thanks in advance,
Ash

so you have a 3930k based pc and are swapping it for haswell?

id stick with the 7990 and the 3930k based rig and then stick ivy-e chip in when it comes out.

At least hold off buying a Titan or any gpu for a moment and way till AMD shows its hand in just over a month then make your purchasing decision

no, that was the spec I was considering going for in the spec check thread originally. I've got one of the first i7s at the moment with 2 6950s. I need to get something sharpish as my mate wants my current PC and needs it soon so can't wait about for the next best thing :)

It *should* be fairly maintenance free until you need to drain and replace the coolant in 6-12 months or so, barring any other issues.
While you would have probably/hopefully learned enough about watercooling to manage this without too many issues, you'd be better off putting it together yourself in the first place I reckon.
This way, you know exactly what's what and why it's there etc and will have gained the knowledge and confidence to deal with any issues should they arise.
It's a very fun and rewarding process and there's nothing to be nervous about if you ask questions, do a little research and use your common sense :)

On top of that, think of the personalized dream machine you could put together for that three grand if you really want to spend that much...

Of course, if you simply don't want to, then that's ok too :)

Thought that may be the case :)

Starting to think it would be a bad idea and to stick with air cooling, I know what I'm doing with that.

thanks mate

lets face it, who doesn't want that little rush of excitement when you set your loop up and press "On" for the first time?
Loops are as complicated or as simple as you want them to be, I'm a first time water cooler myself, and the biggest headache I found was selecting the fittings for the pipes. The rest is pretty simple, if a little expensive. But end of the day you'll get better cooling results and it will look awesome in your new build.
Decision rests with you in the end and enjoy your new build when it arrives mate

I hear that, but I have to say that it's a LOT easier and less risky than you might think :)
It just looks complicated to the uninitiated :D

There's nothing wrong with a good aircooling setup and I was one of THE arch-aircoolers around here until I couldn't resist the temptation to watercool as it looked like a fun thing to do - and it was!

I went from this:

To this:

...And it was a great experience.

All you have to do is attach blocks/rads/fans, cut tubing to length, tighten fittings and then fill/bleed/leak test the loop. Done!
Basically, if you can build an aircooled PC, you can build a watercooled PC too.

All the answers are right here in this forum if you need any help with picking parts and fitting it together etc. Don't fear the unknown and if you need any more motivation, go check out the watercooled case gallery :)

haha! sounds easy :D

thing is, I want a monster PC but as little hassle as possible, just dont have the time to mess about these days so the no hassle bit is very important. as great as that build looks I think I will end up regretting it in the end.

Fair enough. It's just that I couldn't bear to see 3K go there, when you could build something quite a lot better for the cash :)

You can still have a great looking monster PC with aircooling or an AIO like the H100 or something.

Hell, I'd even offer to build it for you if you lived anywhere near north London as I'd love to do another one :D

sadly I'm Manchester based mate otherwise I would love to take you up on the offer. That cooling thing looks interesting, do you fancy giving me a hand coming up with a spec to end all specs. Got around 3k for it. dont want SLI/Crossfire but its something that may be looked at further down the line...

Sure, but I can't promise to spend that much of your money on a single GPU, non/semi watercooled pimp rig :p

This is for gaming and heavy photo/creative stuff, right?
Did you have a general or particular colour scheme in mind?

Your spec and the advice given in your other thread are pretty much spot on tbh. All I'd be doing is tarting it up :D
I assume you're at 1440/1600p? If so, the 780SLI suggestion wouldn't be a bad idea at all.
