Is Stronglifts 5x5 for me?

Well that's the total journey time there and back. Not too bad I guess. Buses are really slow.

Managed to get all my refunds except the barbell. Printed a return statement on amazon and they said they'll deduct £6 for sending a courier out. All in all not too costly a mistake.

Actually trying to get my mate to let me use his gym membership. His fancy apartment complex has a ground floor gym that he never uses. I asked if I can pretend to be him and use it, since he doesn't take advantage of the free membership to its tenants

5mins each way for me on a road bike.. ;D bus would be 1hr both ways with waiting:eek:

Yep same, 10 min walk to bus stop, 40 min ride, 10 mins to gym then repeat. Will need to sort out my sleeping pattern. Just graduated and been on a student sleep pattern for the last... well forever. Doesn't help that I don't get home from my drone job until about midnight. Will have to be strict and go to bed early and just go to the gym early before work. Will probably be as hard if not harder than doing the programme, sorting my sleeping pattern out that I've been in for the last 10 years

This is because I've usually been doing my recent workouts at 1am after work at home. Can't do this now since the last bus is around midnight.

Public transport is - generally - only suited to pensioners or the unemployed (I.e. people who don't have to be anywhere on time, or have plenty of free time). ;)

How do you peddle home on leg day?

Good question! I rarely get bad DOMS! even if my legs burn thorough the squat sash the next day I hardly feel anything more than just a little tingle! Mind you I cycle to work everyday which is 20 miles/day maybe that's my legs cope with DOMS that well.

DOM's shouldn't really hit you that quickly, usually the next day for me anyway.

also how does a 5 min bike ride = 1 hour on a bus?

surely its a 20-30 minute walk also?

which baffles me how a bus would take an hour

It's around an hour both ways - 30 mind each :) 15-20 mins for a bus to come 10-15 mins to cover 1.5 miles - 7 STOPS IN THAT! ;/ on a bike it's a straight line at 20mph/h average. I train from 10pm so the schedule changes a bit compared to peak times.

Home gyms might not work for everyone but I only have access to a rubbish gym (no cage or even a squat rack) so I spent the money and got a decent setup and have used it 3-4 times per week for the last 18 months so it can work out as long as you don't try to cut corners and have the motivation.

That said, if I had a decent gym within 20-30 minutes I'd have taken that option.

Stronglifts is a good program, only real tip I'd offer is to focus on form early on as it's much easier to do that when the weights are light. Every so often possibly back off the weight to focus on form again.

Done two sessions so far of 5x5 squats with my dumbbells to prepare and practice form for starting it and DOMS hit me hard. Still feeling it 5 days after I started, but I guess that's to be expected from never doing squats. Definitely gets better doing more squats.

I don't want to put a downer on your efforts, but squatting with a bar is nothing like squatting with DBs so what you're doing isn't exactly practice.

Go in the form thread and look up Bulgarian split squats in the OP. You will hate me, but they are awesome.
