i wanted a "soft" boil egg and had previously failed as they turned out
like water.
so i buy these little gizmo(poundland) that goes in the pan and changes colour according to how you want your egg, soft hard, medium.
went through 5 eggs and ran out
FFFFFFFFFFFFFfffffffffffffu......

lol.

google turns up all sorts of answer and all give different instructions.
so, can you guys boil an egg to specification?

Ps i boiled the last one for 8 minutes and still failed..

Well there's ya problem, I'm surprised they didn't dissolve. Anything over 3 minutes will hard boil an egg.

For me:

- Eggs out of fridge and into warm water for a few minutes so they don't crack.

- Boil kettle, eggs and boiling water in pan.

- Bring to boil, cook for 2-3 minutes.

- SOFT BOILED PROFIT?!?!

Also depends on the size of the eggs.

Err ... yes. For a soft boiled egg (medium size) I'd boil it for 4 minutes max. Are you boiling the water before you put the egg in? This is a pathetic display of manly kitchen skills btw.

Put the egg(s) in the cold water then heat, once boiling then 3mins for soft boils and 5 or more mins for hard boiled.

The key is to let the eggs warm with the water from cold.

i put the egg in cold water and wack the gas on. got up to 8 minutes and water was bubbling (scary) and i took out and put in egg cup.
took top off egg of and its like water

i had my soldiers lined up ready as well:mad:

If you cook an egg from cold or hot water. Just remove from the water after a few mins and when the wet egg goes dry after 10 seconds its just soft and after 12 seconds its cooked through. Also run under cold water for 30 seconds if you want to shell it.

Put the water on to boil, once it's rapidly boiling, put the egg in, lid on, turn off the heat. Wait 10-15 minutes depending on how runny/hard you want the egg, pro tip. ;)

Also salt in the water makes them easier to peal.
