NEW BUILD BASED AROUND MY NEW GTX780!

Right, so I just won a GTX 780 (thankyou overclockers!) and so I need to upgrade the rest of my system.

Now I already have a decent Thermaltake 750w modular PSU and a 256GB Sandisk Extreme SSD with windows 7.

My budget is around £600.

So far I have this:

Corsair Carbide 300R: £70

Corsair H80i: £75

Patriot 16GB of RAM: £89

Gigabyte Z87-HD3 motherboard: £95

Intel 4770k: £261

And also some fans (probably Corsair quiet edition ones)

Total: £591

Obviously these prices are from Amazon, but I would most likely buy my components from Overclockers for the customer service. I just use amazon, because I find it easier to compile a theoretical basket/wishlist.

Here are my main specifications:

. Has to be around £600
. Has to be QUIET
. Has to be stable @ 4.4GHz
. Has to be color themed (black +white mainly)
. Has to have 16GB for video rendering

So can anyone help with suggestions for different components than listed?
Any help with what AIO cooler to go for etc would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance ;)

Looks nice,

Though im pretty sure the cooler won't fit, if you intend on using the 2 140mm fans for the cooler.. If you just use them for the case, itll work..

The case clearences (as per vortex):

First off – the CPU cooler. Here 300R can accommodate the Noctua NH-U12P pictured. This CPU cooler is 158mm in height and there isn’t a great deal of remaining clearance so the bigger flagships like Noctua NH-D14 and Thermalright Silver Arrow which are 160mm in height could well struggle to fit.

The SR1 is 158mm (with current fans)

Hi Joegy, Well done on your win! :)

Thanks for the replies guys. Just a heads up that I DEFINITELY want a AIO water loop for the CPU.
Also, I dont like the look of the teamgroup elite memory, so Id rather stick to the patriot stuff.

Any different recomendations on motherboard as well? I just need something that is black/white/grey and is decent for overclocking.

And what about the case? Is the 300r the best black/white case with a window at this price or is there something else you prefer?

Thanks for the replies!

Oh and I like these fans the most:

And I can get them white :)

Hi, :)

An AIO cooler would be good but expensive (unless you go for a risky refurb, some have been fine, others have developed leaks), were you thinking H80(i) or H100(i)?

I think the HD3 is a great board for the money, overclocks well too, appearently.

SP120's are great, i had some. :)

I think for the style you should get black RAM (patriot), SP120's (white ring) and some white lighting for inside the case.. That would look sylish and amazing (same tactic TTL uses for his rigs).

The only bad thing about the 300R is the window fan grills, the only other option i have (for the same price) is the Bitfenix Ronin: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-129-BX

Shame it's still on pre-order, may have to ask OCUK for ETA on that.

What do you think?

My goodness I think we have a winner! I have never seen that Ronin case, and it has addressed the very problem I had with the 300r! (window grills)

I think I would order it all first without lighting and then see if it needed it.

So only thing I have left to ask is:

H100i or H80i??

Bearing in mind it needs to fit in my case and is preferably silent as possible??

Thansk so much!

Im pretty sure i asked you that question. :)

They will both fit, both come with 2 fans (same spec)...

Difference is the H100i will take 4 fans overall and looks neater in the top of the case while the H80i will have to be at the back (will still look good).

Cooling wise, the H100i will be better but the H80i is no slouch.. Money/performance is the same.

And for quietness?

Also, should I replace the fans on the H100i with the better corsair ones? I know they are similar, but according to TTL they are different.

The coolers have the same components, Pump/res/fans. So they should produce the same amount of noise.

I'd replace the fans on the h80i/h100i with the SP120's like you said, they are much better. Mine were silent. :)

Ah but I think they do sound different. Mainly for two reasons:

1. The H100i's rad has a larger surface area, so more air is being pushed over it = noisier

2. H100i is more efficient at cooling therefore the fans can be run at a lower RPM in comparison to the H80i = quieter

Also, how should I run a H100i? 4 fans in push/pull? or is that too noisy?

(below is just theroy)

But a fan can only push/pull a certain amount of air so two fans in any configuration will push the same amount of air, right? So the same amount of noise...

(below is for than likely fact :))

The h100 performs well just with 2 fans also decreases noise..

:)

Thats nice, but I want the 4770k because I will be doing a lot of video rendering. I co-host a (reasonably) successful youtube channel and so will need the horsepower for video rendering.

Also....

What about lighting? Any recomendations about a soft white strip light? I dont want a disco in my system, just something highlighting all the components in a white glow

Oh and dont worry about the DVD drive... I already have one ;)

Thansk for the reply though Stuie!
