Con Men.

Because I have a moral objection to people being taken advantage of or conned.

If I came up to you or a member of your family while someone was trying to con you out of money and just proved to you it was a rip off at no benefit to myself, I refuse to believe you would be so indifferent about it.

Although I have to admit, after reading some of the hand wringing and spineless antics of some members a lot of you would probably go back and bend over for it anyway.

How is a family member being conned even remotely comparable to Joe Public getting turned over? It's a deliberate (and painfully blatant) emotional misdirection.

If that's the best sales line you've got it's no surprise he's hammering you!

why are you annoyed?

If people are daft enough to pay £60 for a rubber band let them

Hey, you wanna check out the OCUK motors thread. There's people on there paying £18,000 for a FIESTA  £18,000!!!!!!!!!!!

It's their money, and they can spend it on what they like. How many people have spent £1,000 on a graphics card here?

Why not go and talk to him and get some hints on how to improve your own selling technique for your stall?

Because Joe public is somebody else's family member.

Cognitive empathy, (perspective taking) is why they are comparable - as it's the cornerstone of our ability to survive & flourish in large social groups.

Regarding the OP, it's just another quack selling rubbish, along with a majority of the rest of the "alternative medicine" crowd.

Not really the same, it would be like spending £18,000 on a large piece of wood (which was sold as a car) or £1000 on a block of cheese in the shape of a graphics card.

While the prices may be higher than many would pay, they usually perform as advertised within the boundaries of trading standards.

But not mine?

I'd suggest that if you had cognitive empathy for every stranger who was within ten yards of you, you're more likely to die out from being too wet rather than flourish or survive. :p

Shut up and take my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D

/starts up computer components shaped cheese business with the intention of setting up a stall & outdoing the quack selling rubber bands.

You don't have to actually care about them on an emotional level to empathise with them.

Just appreciate that you wouldn't like that to happen to somebody you know & if you would like others to protect those you care about from the same kind of scam artist then you should do the same yourself.

Otherwise you would be appealing to others to posses attributes you don't yourself (which in my view would be hypocritical), I don't really care about that many people on an emotional level at all - just practice perspective taking & like to have a logically consistent morality.

My best friends dad paid some women 5k for some special stones :(

He is a old man and easily fooled.
Indeed, sadly some people are open to being taken for a ride.

I mean, would it be acceptable then to scam some old lady of her pension?, or how about somebody with learning difficulties? - it's not like these scam artists only go after sceptics to sell products (quite the opposite from personal experience of meeting a few).

From what I've seen they mostly go after the stupid, desperate or vulnerable (through emotional tragedy or reduced cognitive ability).

people are allowed to believe in what ever they want....

some people believe there's a magic cosmic Jewish Zombie, who, if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, will remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

so dont worry about idiots people believing that a piece of rubber can give them balance.

Oh! Took me a minute to work that one out! :D

My sister has 2, one on each wrist they don't do **** all these ones are Trionz or something, for 6months she had them upside down claiming they were helping until I shown her a picture on how you're meant to wear the, :p

Had never even heard of these things before now. Wow... what an absolute crock. Forty quid on Amazon for a rubber wrist band. Just had to sigh with disappointment in humanity at this review:

"I suffer from vertigo so thought I would give bracelet a try and it certainly helps would recommend . My daughter has one for her self and one for her horse and she says they both work as she has noticed the difference."

Two things:

1. Idon'twanttoliveonthisplanetanymore.jpg
2. I wish I'd thought of that.
