Just about to order ~ £800 budget

That looks like a potty27 spec :)

I'd get an MSI 7950 instead with the current price. And I'd go for the Asus 970 EVO R2.0 (£5 cheaper) unless he wants SLI/Crossfire in the future.

A few more posts (reach 100) and you'd get free P&P anyway. There is a good price on the MSI 7950. There is also a trial for windows 8 he can use for 3 months free to see if he likes it and saves him cash for now.

Total : £795.85 (includes shipping : FREE).

Intel alternative with cooler to allow OC'ing. The 7870LE can be OC'd to trade blows with a stock 7950. Cheapo KB but a better mouse for gaming. I take it no optical drive is needed then?

I don't like dropping the OS when it's required when speccing a system. It's a very artificial way to make a spec look cheaper than it really is.

I'd rather point out the option. Many people are open to buying upgrades down the line, such as coolers, SSDs etc etc. paying for the OS later on is no different.

Some people are on the fence over Windows 8 and aren't aware of the trial to try it out. Infact I have heard of people "re-arming" the trial to get an extra 3 months out of it. I clearly stated it's a trial and would only save him cash temporarily.

It's a "trick of the trade" much like I pointed out he wasn't far off getting free P&P which some people also don't know about. I'd rather give people all the options and let them choose what path is best for them. Even if I include an OS in the spec I'll still mention the windows 8 trial

The timings on the RAM are slow, that's what I expect to see on a 2400MHz kit.

@OP this RAM is CAS9 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-136-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

It's not that bad! :p

I'd avoid the single fan 7950 personally, as it seems it will be loud at load. (but it's a good price)

With the Frozr at £190 vs Asus at £198, I think theres not much to chose between them, the 670 is slightly faster at slightly more money I believe?

The mobo I'm sure your right about :)

To me it is different as the OS is needed, e.g. You can't really decide not to buy an OS later down the line, where as you could chose to continue not buying a cooler/ssd.

As such the OP would need to buy it sooner or later, so may as well buy now, or leave enough in the budget to be sure to have the funds to buy later on after the trial.

Just my 2 cents, you give them the info to make their minds up, so it's fair enough. :D
