I know people think the £25m~ price tag for Benteke, but I'd more than happily see that spent on him to join Arsenal. He'd be ideal IMO. Very strong and has already shown he can score goals in this league.

My ideal signings this season would have been Benteke, Gustavo and a CB, don't really know who though really.. I'm happy for Koscielny and Mertersacker to continue as the main partnership, and I'm happy with the fullback situation.

Swansea's Willams is the likely target..

I'd be more than happy to sign Williams. Like I said, I'm happy with a Kos/mert partnership, so it's backup/rotation for them more than anything. Vermaelen to turn up every now and again for a game or 2 as well, when he recovers from another injury.

Edit: I wouldn't be interested in falcao tbh. A really good player, no doubt - But it would be crazy money on someone that hasn't played in the league. Arsenal can't throw money about on anyone, nevermind people that haven't proved themselves over here. (Note: That isn't me saying the Premier League is the best, but our playstyle IS different to the others, so it would be a huge risk IMO)

Rumour I read today is Arsenal will offer Liverpool Vermaelen plus £45 mill for Suarez.

LOL Liverpool wont even look at that deal especially with Verm being so injury prone...in fact i dont think we could give that walking talking injury note away at the moment lol.

Mind you knowing our luck, he will get fit play for a year and do really well then only to see someone like Utd, City or Chelsea come in and snatch him off us for a cheap transfer fee because Arsenal didnt tie him to a longer contract etc etc.

I suppose for Wenger its now getting to the point of desperation for new signings and Suarez seems to be the only forward/striker thats available. But i still cant see Liverpool selling him to us for any amount of money. Id rather us bid £45-50mill for Rooney and see what Utd say...hes the type of player i would love to see at Arsenal if he can get himself fit that is.

Arsenal and Man Utd will do fine without any new signing's.

Utd are fine, they have a strong squad just their manager really isnt that proven at the very top.

Arsenal need to make a few signings it is as simple as that, we have a decent first 11 but if any of them get injured or are out long term then we are truly ****ed. That is the reality of our squad and already injuries are starting to pile up ie Arteta is out for 6 weeks at least, Sagna is out, Verm is out and Walcott could be out too.

To put it bluntly our squad is NOT good enough to challenge for the PL title nor will we win any trophies with the squad we have. Again it will be a season of inconsistency, only for us to somehow snatch another 4th place finish. Even the with the Spuds strengthening somewhat and even Liverpool looking at Willian, 4th place could at best be a pipe dream IF Wenger doesnt strengthen our squad before the window closes.

Man Utd will do I imagine, but Arsenal need some squad signings at least. A solid player for Defence, Midfield and Striker I think would be the most ideal.
What they needed was a striker but its too late now.

Wenger will probably bring in players on a free transfer
Top 4 does look unpredictable with basically 6 teams fighting for it but I reckon City and Arsenal will miss out on top 4. You need someone like RvP :p

What the hell are you on about? You actually write complete carp. If you spent 40million on a player and gave him 100k a week, what is the biggest outgoings for the financial year?

lol about the transfers being complete luck, i agree with you to an extent, you can never really know whether a player will step up to the mark. But are you seriously saying there is no nack to finding players? If that's the case, why the hell do clubs employ scouts? just..lol

Have a read of Why England Lose by Simon Kuper. It's got some great data about success vs. wage budget and transfer fees.

There's an incredibly strong correlation between success and wage budget. Transfer fees have very little effect. Ultimately, success is not just based on bringing players in but also in keeping the players that you've got. A higher wage budget does this.

Arsenal's wage budget is 50% higher than Spurs'. If this is still the case at the end of this transfer window then it follows that Arsenal should finish above Spurs this season, as they have done since Wenger took over.

So the 90mil Man City have spent this transfer window has no effect? It's the wages? It's just not true. You can't even get to the stage of negotiating a contract if you don't stump the transfer fee. Tbh, i've probably got myself into a pickle saying that wages have no affect, of course they do. Everything from the physio to the directors have an affect on a club. The main point is, teams like Chelsea and CIty who have spent close to 500mil over the last whatever years, whether thats in wages or transfers, have an increased chance of being successful. That's why Arsenal have been no where near the top recently, they don't have the huge amounts of money of Chelsea and City.

It's a bit like the saying, it's easier to make money when you've got money. That's why you have no competition in La Liga..no one bar Barca/Real have any decent money..

I'm pretty sure Liverpool have had a higher wage bill than Spurs for the past few years?

We have. Our lack of stability since Benitez has cost us a fortune; I'd hate to think how much we've spent paying/paying off players that were signed by one manager (or Purslow) and not wanted by the next manager.

From what I recall over the last decade when you look at transfers and wages combined Spurs and Arsenal are about evens with Arsenal spending slightly more overall.

The difference being however that Arsenal now have a 60,000 seater money bonanza stadium built off the back of the income from 14 consecutive CL qualifications while Spurs are still stuck at White Hart Lane with half the capacity and need to come up with 400 million quid from somewhere to redevelop so they can keep up.

Here:

Liverpool have I believe pretty consistently spent more than both Arsenal and Spurs on combined transfers and wages but again are facing the same issue with Anfield needing significant capacity increase also, although not as desperately as Spurs anyway.

What will it take for Arsenal fans to put Suarez in the "not available" list ?

Cool stat from Swiss Ramble - Arsenal have a cash balance (160 million) which is almost as much as all other 19 teams in the Premier League put together (180 million).

Clearly the reason they aren't winning trophies is because there'd be no room with all the banknotes stashed away in the cabinet :p

I don't think Arsenal need a striker, it would be nice to get another good striker in, but it's certainly not needed. Giroud will start mostly, then there is Sanogo, Podolski and Walcott that can all play there.
