Looking at components for a new build for gaming/music production and I'm trying to decide if the i7-4700k is worth £100 than the i5-3570k.

Can anybody offer some insight? Thanks for any help.

I also say go for it, moving to a 4770k setup in the next few days. I had a 3570k and it was ok, but for me it was a major letdown with sli in games i play. Bought a 3770k but it turned out to be a bit of a lemon regards oc'ing. Hence the switch to the 4770k.

and intel's least overclockable regarding temps/decent clocker:D
Lol, very true. Deliberately gimped imho to push sales of sbe and the upcoming ibe. A soldered haswell or ivy cpu would be astonishingly good at a great price point.

if the op is running a single gpu and monitor I would stay as you are

but if that itch is too itchy then by all means scratch it!!

In games, theres only a few that an i7 benefits, particularly with sli/xfire. Bf3 and crysis 3 really shine in such a setup.

actually I misread the first post,i blame illuz's post below:p

if your buying new then go haswell, even consider ib-e/x79 if you have a big enough budget, and don't mind waiting a wee while

Very tempted to delid my 4770k and maybe lap the ihs and cooler base. I figure that if im gonna loose the warranty by delidding, i might as well go the whole hog. Lapping worked wonders on a q6600 i had at 3.8ghz, dropped load temps from 81c to 68c, lapped TRUE cooler as well.

Can you go naked mount with an air cooler wazza? Im nearly sure that i seen a pic on here of an alternative to the ek waterblock mount. I think you may even have posted it. Was a fair few weeks ago though.
