Nvidia GTX 670 or 760?

For good BF4 performance you should get an AMD card. There's little to no chance you'll manage decent FPS at ultra on a single GPU, but you never know.

People in here

When ports of next generation games arrive and you have to turn down settings and run at lower resolutions just to get the games frame buffer to fit into your pidley 2Gb of VRAM I'll be quietly laughing at you from the side lines with my 3Gb of VRAM

There has been a lot of talk about what the new consoles will do lately.

I think when they hit the market they will turn out to be a bit of a disappointment.

Lets see what they have got when they launch, I don't think the performance will come close to what most of the people on these forums are getting now with their PCs.:D:)

People with Nvidia cards say 2GB is enough, people with AMD cards say 3GB is more future proof. People with neither probably don't care.

Given the lower price on the 7950 and the higher memory spec though I'd not recommend the 670, unless you adore PhysX.

The HD 7850 is no slouch at 1080P, why not wait until AMD release the 9XXX series, that way you will have more choice and even better price drops on current cards.

As the game isn't out - I doubt anyone knows

I think 2gb vram will be enough for 1080p bf4. However you might need to drop AA down to x2. I believe x4 will be right on the limit, not just the vram limit but also the gpu grunt required.

2gb at 1440p will not be enough i reckon with any form of aa though in bf4.

Those are my predictions and you can quote me on it. :D

I predict for BF4 that one 7950 or 7970 will be enough for high settings at 1080p, but ultra will need two to get above 30fps. I also expect that 3GB VRAM will be needed for best performance at ultra. You can quote me on those too ;)

I hope BF4 comes with an in game bench tool.:D:)

We'll see. That'll certainly be a shock if Ultra is unplayable without aa on a single gpu. I can't see it myself. I can see the game being a bit more demanding, but nothing drastic.

I live and pray for that. Just give us consistency, that's all we ask. That way there can be no differences. Right now it sometimes depends on which map the benchmarking site uses which is not very helpful.

It'll get to ultra on one GPU I expect - but only the 9970 :D

I think 30fps on a clocked 7970 is a bit harsh :p

One 7970 will be able to run it ultra at 1080p. Otherwise why would AMD have this slide? :D

An overclocked 7970 will probably manage over 30fps yeah. I don't think there's any chance a single 7970 will do 60fps ultra though, not with a new engine and a new GPU coming out.

The problem for me is the way I play these games (getting killed quick) does not do much for the fps.

Its not a new engine though, its the same engine. All they're (supposedly) doing is using more power of the engine. Interesting times ahead though. It looks stunning running on a 7990. I wonder what res they were using in that trailer video, 1080p most likely. I just hope i can max it out with my setup. x2 AA will do me, but x4 would be ideal. Just for willy waving rights over our 2gb brothers.

BF3 is Frostbite 2, BF4 is Frostbite 3 - I've no idea of the difference though (except Frostbite 3 has AMD optimisations).

Well ill be damned, you're right.

Last time i checked they said they were using frostbite 2, but just using more of the engine.

I thought that AMD talk was mainly guff, but it looks like its going to have substance in this case.

I think my 2gb cards will be ok, failing that I have my 3gb cards, failing that I have my (I won't mention the name).:D
