hi so im putting together the pc today and it was going well until we came to the fan part!

ive got the zalman z9 u3 case, gigabyte z68 mobo so where dowe connect the exhaust fan?and where is the controller? we have the top fan connected to sys fan and the front fan connected to pwr fan is this right?

panicking now lol

Depending on the motherboard, you may be limited to the number of fan headers you can use. Check the manual to see how many you have, but you'd be better getting a fan controller.

Providing you have connected the CPU fan to the correct header, you'll be fine, the other aren't as important.

thanks I think we have sorted it :-)

but we now have a slight issue with the psu and motherboard wiring ive got the thermaltake smart se 530w and gigabyte z68 but where it says ATX on the motherboard it is a four pin plug but the plug coming out of the psu is an 8 pin?how do we fit this?does it need fitting?

plug half of the 8 pin plug into the motherboard,it will only plug in one way so you cant get it wrong:p

Morning!!

Well I didn't know if to start another thread but another problem has surfaced :-(

Finally got the pc built connected it via HDMI to our samsung tv, pressed the on button on pc it boots up a second later turns off then another second later turns itself back on, but there is nothing on my screen just says HDMI no signal? Also there is a VERY slight tick/click coming from what I think is the graphics card only every now and then is that normal? Graphics card is the VTX3D HD 7870 Black Boost Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

I would suggest removing the graphics card and use the onboard as a test. Could also check all the power cables are connected firmly. 24 pin, 4 pin eps.

What is the spec?

Just read through your last thread and it seems no one mentioned that the Z68 may not have the Ivybridge bios update. If this is the cause of your problem, then you need a Sandybridge Cpu, so as you can update the bios.
But, try connecting the TV to the motherboard and not the Gpu.
Also double check, all connectors are properly seated on the mobo and Gpu.

My spec is

Avexir Core Blue Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U24001004G-2CI) - Blue Light

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD

VTX3D HD 7870 Black Boost Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail

Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM 1

All in the zalman z9 u3 case, so I am right it should work off HDMI?havent got a VGA cable yet waiting for it to be delivered

+1

you'll need latest bios for ivy cpu on z68,and to update the bios you first need a sandybridge cpu to do it so catch 22

cheap Pentium/Celeron sandybridge chip would work to flash with, then put in your ivy cpu

Oh fudge that sounds worrying! Hubby isn't gonna be happy lol so I can't use the CPU I have with the z68?

Fudge!

How much am I lookin for that?could I sell it afterwards? I have to build another one for my youngest son is there a possibility I could use it in his?

Do you have any family or friends that might have a SB Cpu you could use?

Nah and to be honest most of them would look at me blank :-)

Just don't know which way to turn at the mo, is this the most possible explanation why I have no screen output?hubby is at work at the mo so can't check connections just yet but I'm pretty sure we made certain that they were connected properly

I say about building another one for the youngest just in case there is a way to use what we buy for his?

Help is much appreciated guys thanks
