Tempted to go back to PAYG? Am I missing something?

Hi all.

I've got an iPhone 5, on an Orange SIM only plan. I get 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data for £20.50 a month.

Now, i'm regularly going over the data, using upto twice that. Hence my bills are often closer to £30 when all's said and done.

I've just seen the Orange advert on TV saying that on PAYG, if you top up £10 a month you get 400 texts and 1GB data thrown in?!?

Thinking this must mean that they're offering something similar for Pay Monthly users, I check the site, but no - I have to pay over double to get a similar deal (and sign up for a year!).

What's up with this - am I missing something? Do they not want to keep me on contract? Because i'm very likely to tell them to cram their charges this week and go back to the old topup system.

If you're not a big user, look at Ovivo - £15 for the year on the proviso you look at some adverts every now and then when you load your browser, you get:

150 mins

250 texts

500MB data

which is what I bought for my dad and its been pretty good so far!

If you do switch bare in my mind they will very slow in sending out a payg sim like a month and you have to give them a months notice of contract termination.

Can I not just drop into an Orange store and get one?

I actually quite like the network and it's coverage and I don't really want to switch away. I just also resent being taken for a ride financially.

In my experience with Orange, just contact them and say you're not happy with the deal you're getting they'll either knock money off, put you on a better tariff or give you free addons like 500mb internet booster.

whilst i appreciate you don't want to switch, you are being done financially.

GiffGaff for example on O2 offer 1GB data, 500mins and unlmited texts for £10, or for £12 unlimited data with 250 mins...

Wow. Agree with Pug. You're being shafted.

200/unlimited/unlimited for £13 here

Edit- on Three

Their not slow that's whole point of the 30 days notice, request PAYG switch over the phone and they dispatch the card on approx. day 20 of your notice you register it and all done. You can even save a few days line rental by registering soon as you get it

Yeah that's the offer I got, except you get charged a few quid extra for the first month making it a few pennies more per month.

4G will be free when it rolls out too.

Hmm, I forgot to check T-Mobile and what they charge is much more like it. I don't therefore understand why Orange don't when you're getting essentially the same thing (even the same network!).

But three's deals are even better. Can I just ask what coverage is like with them - do they use another network or have their own?

Just get a free sim from Three. Try it out for a few days. If its good then go for it. Three sim only plans are very good.

I just have to check as i'm a bit "out in the sticks" in Devon. I know EE works fine here - hence i'm tempted to go with T-Mobile. But three are tempting with their "all you can eat" data.

Needs more research I think. I am kicking myself for paying so much for so long though.
