As VM have free BT Sport I am thinking of changing from Sky (full package)

I think is generally accepetd Sky is better but I was wondering what the downsides are and whether they would be worth it to get BT Sport

I know there is no Sky Atlantic but I don't watch it that often

I am struggling to find out what yiu get on their versions of Sky go and the on demand service

Hi Mate

Personally i think Virgin Media is better, you can record 3 programs, faster broadband etc and free BT sports, theres an app for ipad which enables you to watch certain streaming channels from virgin whilst on the go, this is growing all the time.

Thanks, I already have BB and phone with Virgin so am just looking at the TV

any idea what the "certain channels" are, its the sports channles that are important

could do being able to use on Android as well as iPad but it's not a show stopper

cheers, are the Sky Sports channels on ?

I have a slingbox which is another way I could do it if the VM box works woth it

Sky+HD box is much better than Virgin's Tivo, the interface is much cleaner and more responsive. Tivo is cluttered, slow and generally a pain. Sky also have better apps such as Sky Go.

Virgin has a much better on demand backbone. The TV box gets it's own dedicated line for streaming on demand stuff completely separate to your home broadband.

On the website Ive got access to all the Sky Premiums and ESPN and BBC Sport - so you should be alright. Dno what the app is like though - its called VirginMedia Anywhere IIRC

Agree with this, although the layout etc. is probably down to personal opinion, the Virgin box is significantly slower than the Sky box. There's also the 1hr pause limit, which might not be relevant to you, but we find it a real pain. We only went with Virgin because it was the only "decent" internet available at the time, but as soon as our contract is up we're going to move back to Sky.

Sky for me no choice. Every box I have ever had with Virgin has been rubbish, always going off/crashing etc.

The layout of he Sky guide (as already mentioned) is light years ahead of Virgin too.

Possibly used to be (aside from music which Virgin has got a good service for) but Sky on demand now is fantastic for movies and TV shows.

sky on demand for me is pretty rubbish using skygo especially when some sporting event is on and loads of people must be using skygo to watch whatever it is live
buffering > buffering > buffering

so you can just go to the website and watch Sky Sports ? any restrictions on platforms etc ?

The address is http://anywhere.virginmedia.com

I think anything Sky premium can only be viewed on a primary device, but you can have upto 2 devices and can change them each month like Sky Go. I havent really used it that much yet though - looks like it only supports iOS right now. Im using it fine on my MBP with Firefox...

for the sake of £15 a month you would be better off with Sky's service, the only decent thing about VM is their broadband which you already have.

plus VM's packages are more expensive than sky's for less channels

Agree very much there. Just got Sky+ HD built in wifi, and it's fantastic, much quicker, smoother, and better picture quality than Virgin TiVo.

I'd tend to agree with this. The Sky box is much slicker and you will end up feeling frustrated with the Tivo box after a while (its sooo slow!).
