**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

My advice, for what it's worth, would be to keep your pre-orders in until the prices of the digital games are announced. I'm like you and would rather get digital if I can, but I'm happy to get the disc based games if they're a fair bit cheaper. I doubt any of the games would sell out, but you'd be rather peeved if you cancelled your pre-orders and then couldn't find the game on release because the digital version is too expensive and the physical versions have sold out.

Thanks. Good advice. I just hope they announce something about digital pricing before release.

The launch 360 wasn't that big so it will be larger.

When you look at the internals for the Xbox One it uses the 360S design which people class the S as slim but it has more depth then launch 360.

I think you need to look at proper pictures regarding PS4 because mostly all the comparisons I keep seeing put it up again the launch (George foreman grill) PS3 with the odd few again PS3 Slim and it is about same size (PS3 has curved bits which makes it appear larger PS4 is rectangle).

THE TRUTH

CBOAT has just posted a rather large selection of "truthfacts" on neogaf, just waiting on them to be translated and I'll post them! :)

#1
No livestream from GDC due to yield issues, 15-20% performance drops in latest SDK--this is a normal setback for console development, and will be fixed, but not in time for an early October launch...

#2
... Certainly not for all 21 countries. Localization is BS; look at official/spoken languages in countries that did/didn't make it. I was right on yield issues, and this is pushing launch titles, Smartglass, etc. back. (One unified process having its costs?)

#3
PS4 SDKs effectively final, launch in late October.

#4
MS has picked up a Platinum exclusive... And has no plans to release in NA/Europe. Talks with other JP devs are also ongoing, but CBoAT can only guarantee this one.

#5
Bigpark has canceled their MOBA project, shifted entirely to TV focus. Dev talent to Big Tusk or gone completely. Rare on Kinect.

#6
New indie policy not finalized, details post-launch

#7
Early September surprise.
CBoAT backing down on previous claims of Kinectless SKU; new potential for console-only SKU in March-April based on launch performance.

I'm liking points 3 and 7, just hope the system doesn't sell as well as the PS4 so they will look at a kinectless version.

Whilst I have enjoyed the 360, this gen looks like a swap and I'll be doing all my mulit plat gaming on the PS4, I just haven't seen anything to warrant buying the Xbone yet.

That's what MS really have to sort out if they want digital to take off. Reduce the price over time, like retail shops do, and I'll be much more likely to go fully digital. If they don't, I don't think digital will take off the way they want it do.

We know that publishers want to kill off 2nd hand sales, and by extension MS will push for it. The best way they can do this is sell digital copies of games at just below the 2nd hand price.

The livestream is supposedly twitch integration not GDC.....
I thought that meant more that TwitchTV integration wont be available til GDC (March/April next year)

EDIT: Much easier to understand before that crap translation, as it doesnt even mention GDC, just that livestreaming wont work from launch...

No live stream for real reasons. Xbone architecture is still not fully completed. The latest version of the SDK a couple of weeks ago dropped performance by 15-20% across the board. Now before you get mad at MS, this happens ALL THE TIME in console development and it will eventually be fixed, but no chance for an early October release or...

TRUTHFACT 2+

... certainly not for all 21 countries. "Localization" is absolute one hundred percent BS. Period. TRUTHFACT. An excuse nobody with common sense would consider. Look at the countries dropped. Cross reference against languages spoken, official and otherwise in said countries. I said there were yield issues two months ago and the chicks have come home to roost. Knock offs for launch titles, and SmartGlass, etc. instead of the 180's "one coherent vision". Paying the price now.

TRUTHFACT 3+

Late October launch for the PS4. Sony's SDK is ready, you can basically master it to a final release right now. Today.

TRUTHFACT +4

If you thought people were mad about Bayonetta's sequel going to Wii U, you'll be somewhat unhappy about what Microsoft is moneyhatting with Platinum. Other Japanese devs are in play too, but Kamiyatown is the only one I'm solid on. Game is NOT for North America or Europe, by the way, which makes no sense but whatever.

TRUTHFACT $5

BigPark nuked their game. It was a MOBA, but it's dead dead dead now. A whole studio focusing on TV services! All their best talent went to Black Tust or left MS entirely. Rare's still Kinect focused, no matter what else you've heard.

TRUTHFACT 6

New indie publishing policy's not set yet. Will come postlaunch.

TRUTHFACT #7: Early September Surprise

Apologies in advance. Everything I saw over the last 24 months was that there's no chance of a Kinect-less SKU. It was a solid concrete decision, firm as a beach volleyball buttocks, no matter what other changes have been going on around here.

And... weeeelllll, about that.

There's whispers of a Kinect-optional (as in, not in the box) SKU early next year. March or April. Enough smoke now that I didn't want to wait until September to say it. Launch number fallout will play its part.

A storm is coming.
