we're still missing creativity. we could still bag willian, lamela and coentaro though :)

a dream scenario but not totally out of reach. if/when bale goes, i think lamela will come. loads of rumours that we've bid 30-40m euro's for him (not sure if it's total nonsense but there's definitely something in the mix)

i'd still love us to keep bale and it's dragged on for a while now and (as hoddle said pre-match) if real were serious about him, why hasn't it happened? not even sure if there's been a formal bid!

if we get some creativity in or holtby steps up. when this team gels, we'll be a very good team. we are lacking in areas and the free flowing days of modric and VDV with bale on the left seem to be a distant memory now. we're not as exciting to watch but this can be addressed and as entertaining as we were when were playing the free flowing game, we were leaking goals due to modric getting bullied and VDV not being good at tracking back but heck it was entertaining and i doubt many neutrals would disagree.

walker impressed me today too. not sure what happened over the summer of if he can keep it up but he was great in the attacks and linked with lennon very well imo.

The Times are reporting that Spurs have made another move for Willian today after initially giving up on signing him on Friday and that he wants time to decide between Spurs and Liverpool. I guess that means 2 things, Bale's off and Spurs have bumped their offer up for(to) him.

BOOM! According to Gazzetta, Tottenham is extremely close to sign Willian!

If fee confirmed,Tottenham could sign Willian and (maybe)Lamela and Pjanic with money got from Bale (but a Vertonghen's partner more need)

Although now that Roma have sold Osvaldo, they aren't anymore forced to sell Lamela. They will if offer is very good/replacement ready

On the other side, if Willian's is confirmed, might be the confirmation that Roma deal with Tottenham was 'If we sell Osvaldo,Lamela stays'

I read the 'If Osvaldo goes, Lamela stays' many times. Now we see if its true.

I'm not watching Spurs again, it was painful.

Efficient I think is the term you're searching for there ;)

With regards to Capoue, the guy looks pretty damn good to me, got up to speed really quickly after coming on and showed real skill. After the defensive performance showed today, I have to say that I am a lot more optimistic with our chances but like you say CM, we need to look at the creative situation - maybe Holtby, once he is back, could be the one to do this given enough game time.

Indeed. Lennon still has a poor final ball it seems and the new guy on the left doesn't seem anything special? Early days mind. Paulinho and Dembele should be a good partnership and Soldado looks classy despite not having many chances (down to the service).

Read earlier on that it looks like we might be back in for Lars Bender, we made a £19mill bid for him which was promptly rejected so if we really want him then Arsenal/Wenger are going to have to pay through the nose for him i feel. Dont know much about the lad, is he any good and would he improve us considerably etc??

I also found it quite interesting to hear the Sunday football team on Sky sports this afternoon especially Alan Smith who made some pretty good comments about how badly we have done this summer.

As for that fan, the link that was posted above. Cant blame him for how he feels, i feel pretty much the same about the whole Arsenal transfer farce this summer.

If Wenger is screwing up these transfers then he needs to go simple as that, if its the board or someone in charge of transfers then they need to go. There really isnt any excuse as to how we failed so spectacularly this summer regarding transfers. This is why i have always said, since we lost Dein a while back we have been atrocious in the transfer market...at least when Wenger said i want such and such player...he would go and get them.

Oh heres an interesting blog post from an Arsenal fan:

This bit really stands out for me:

Since the inception of the PL, what has The Arsenal actually spent on players?? If we look at the total amount we have made from selling players vs what we have spent on players since the start of the premier league, we have spent £20,216,000 (in 20 years). In comparison Man United have spent £230,810,000,

Chelsea £618,165,000 and ManCity £565,927,000.

We have spent considerably less than the winners of the past 10 years; a lot less, actually.

Yes i realise we also built a brand new stadium too as well in that time but honestly i feel the Emirates is now a curse on us. At least with Highbury it was an absolute fortress where we would batter teams into the ground. Perhaps we should have just kept Highbury as our ground, it had a certain feel about it compared to the Emirates where at times you can hear the pin drop:p

The worst thing is that we have £154mill in cash reserves, so where is this money being spent??. It sure as hell isnt being spent on getting players in :/

Im really praying that come Wed we beat Fenerbache good and proper, we have some huge injury concerns and as of yet havent signed anyone so i just dont know how this is going to turn out. Fenerbache have some pretty decent players themselves and could do a Villa on us. Doesnt help us one bit that we have to play in Turkey of all places :/

Fulham favourites to sign Scott Parker for £3-3.5m. Good player, but for someone his age? Jol did want someone 'proven' to come straight into the team though.

Being that Wengers contract is up for renewal at the end of this season, should Arsenal renew it? Will anyone at the club be brave enough to suggest to Kroenke et al that perhaps Arsene's time has been and gone and that its time to get someone else in?

Arsenal will probably bid for Rooney this week, only for it to be rejected.

Wish i had your crystal ball fella;). Been saying it for most of the summer, we should have bid for Rooney rather than Suarez. But now that we have shown our hand ie bid £40mill and £1 for Suarez, if Utrd were to sell him to us then they would probably want £50+mill because teams now know just how desperate we are to get a world class player in.

Nope no way it should be renewed, until at least we get CL football and definitely after the transfer window shuts...he has a few weeks to get this diabolical situation sorted out at Arsenal...if he doesnt then he should walk quietly out the door.

Yeah but the fans and media are really really on Arsenal's back to sign someone and Rooney is the only one that is proven in the PL, that wants to leave. I reckon a £35m bid for Rooney will be made soon, will be rejected of course. Rooney might be sold to Arsenal next year, rather see Arsenal have him than Chelsea.

It's all very well when a player wants to leave but Man UTD can play hardball and not sell him. Arsenal need to be looking at players who are available and can be bought and I don't believe Rooney is available AT ALL.

I'm not sure what should happen at the end of the season in regard to Wenger's contract, personally I think we should judge him at the end of the season and not beforehand, though the transfer window so far has quite blatantly been a massive failure. We've wasted far too much time on one deal which was never going bear any fruit, I don't know why we couldn't have pursued Suarez while still looking for the players we needed in other positions, it seems like we can only work on one thing at a time.

We desperately need a new first choice right back or at least promote Jenkinson and bring in a backup. Sagna is so bad it's painful, he can't cross, he doesn't beat his man often either and in defence he's a pure liability. We desperately need someone strong in the middle of the pitch who will actually sit in front of the defence, mop up, chase players down and distribute the ball to the more advanced midfielders. Arteta did an alright job of that last season in my opinion but I'd rather see him further up the pitch instead of wasting his range of passing making 10 yard sideways and backward passes constantly. Plus he's hardly Mr. Muscle and he's fairly short too, Gustavo would have been perfect but that's yet another situation we have ballsed up. I like Wolfsburg, in fact I try and watch their matches when I can, but stature-wise they aren't even in the same league as Arsenal, I know we haven't won anything for quite a while but we are in the top competitions at least, while Wolfsburg were pretty much relegation fodder in the Bundesliga for the vast majority of last season.

I'm just confused about everything behind the scenes at Arsenal, none of us know exactly what is going on, but clearly something isn't right and the more Gazidis and the other board members come out and say we have more than enough financial firepower, the more I think it's actually Wenger who is just reluctant to spend when it's obvious to everybody apart from Arsene that we desperately need better players in so many positions.

He's got 2 years on his contract, he's great in the PL and he wants to leave, the obvious choice is to bid for him. Who else is there? Suarez will not leave Liverpool. It'll be a bid just to please the fans.
I do see Rooney moving to Arsenal next summer.

HIghbury wasn't a fortress because of the stadium itself, the team was just fantastic, the team is not fantastic now thus we can't win every game there. Henry, Pires, Adams, Lauren, Vieira, Gilberto, these were simply fantastic players.

Likewise AFTER the loan repayments we have not for a single day been worse off in terms of income since before we moved, had we not moved the team would be making dramatic losses spending at the levels we have for wages.

The money isn't the issue, player quality is, this has been the problem since 8 years ago. When you push Pires out of the club, one of the best left wingers in the league ever, because you favour Hleb.... when you shove Gilberto out of the door so Song/Denilson can get more games. How many sick note players can one team have before the manager stops buying players with a bad injury history, and starts shipping out injury prone players rather than throwing them wage increases and new contracts?

We NEED players, because several of the first team aren't good enough and most of our youngsters won't amount to anything, most of the backup/rotation players aren't good enough. I don't care about the cost or the name/status of a player, just that they are good. I'm fine with getting the next Cesc on a free, the problem is Wenger can't spot the next Cesc any more. He'll try to buy who he thinks is the next Cesc and he'll get another Diaby.

Wenger lost his eye for a player, lost his edge in training/fitness/professionalism, tactically he's utterly inept and getting the best out of players is something he's been incapable of for a very very long time.

If we spend, sure, anyone can buy someone today like RVP and know they'll do good, but we need 5 players at the bare minimum, and I have zero faith that Wenger can even get 2 useful players if he signed 5 guys. We need a new manager, and quite frankly I'd prefer to save the supposed 70mil, screw up this season, have Wenger gone and leave the new guy next season the 70mil to spend wisely rather than have Wenger waste most of it this season.

I want a new manager to come in, make wholesale changes(remember the vast majority of people we let go weren't even remotely involved in the first team last year), with Diaby, Ramsey, Walcott, maybe AOC, Sagna, Mert, maybe Verm(depends if a new manager can fix the medical staff and his injury problems), Rosicky. Whoever it is will need some cash to do so, it makes much more sense to have fired Wenger this summer(well years ago but you get the idea) and let a new manager have a shot this year at building the team rather than give Wenger another year to make Arsenal worse, but assuming this is his last year, I'm very happy to save the cash for a new manager next season.

I do see Rooney moving to Arsenal next summer.

I don't think United would sell him to us in a million years.
