Best bang for your buck if you're going 1440p

I am looking to get 50 fps plus with a 4770k/8gb/z87x-oc setup

What would be my best bet

2x7950 definitely. Not sure id agree that 2x770 sli represents good bang for buck though in comparison. 2x670 maybe with the price reductions but that comes with no games and less vram/smaller bus size.

2x msi 7950 3gb, sell the 6 free games for £45 = £306 for 25% faster than a stock titan. That's the price of 1x770 btw.

While the 770 is amazing card if you have the money. I have to agree with LtMatt. That 7950 deal is hard to pass up.

If you want to play on mid settings yes, if you want to play high/max then 2 cards is minimum!

Saying you need two cards to enjoy 1440p is not really right. If AMD have sorted the stupid boost issues with crossfire a pair of 7950 cards as Matt said is a great choice or even a pair of the cheap 670 cards.

Indeed it can, as i benched a few months back when i had my 7970.

Saying you need two cards to enjoy 1440p is not really right. If AMD have sorted the stupid boost issues with crossfire a pair of 7950 cards as Matt said is a great choice or even a pair of the cheap 670 cards.

The issue is still there im afraid however its easily fixed and only affects higher overclocks providing you set the power to +20%.

However i posted three possible fixes for the boost bios problem here.

a 800 pound card is needed to max 1980x1080 and keep 60 fps min

so sli 7950s or nvidia equivalent should probably keep close to mins of 60 but will drop below if all games are maxxed.

Entirely dependant on game and user perception to dropping below 60fps.

I ran 1440p with a 680/7970/7950 X fire/Single 670/670 Sli/690/Titan and finally a single 780 before selling the screen.

Out of all the cards the 780 & Titan gave the best all round results but the 690 gave the best bench scores. But all the cards did better than I thought tbh. A few unnoticeable tweaks like lowering AA kept things smooth.

I feel a single 7970Ghz or 780/Titan is perfectly acceptable for 1440p. But for the cost you may as well go with a pair of 7950 or 670 cards.

But as I always say try a single card first and if you do not find it enough then buy another.

60fps it is an absolute number, it's not relative and no matter how much you try to sugarcoated, won't change a thing. Rock solid 60FPS remains butter smooth while anything under (3-4FPS) will be noticeable, more so if you play with an FPS cap.

Of course, if 60 fps or higher settings aren't a "must have", then by all means, one card can do one hell of a job (my 7950@1170/1600 can power 5040x1050 surprisingly good/efficient).

But as I always say try a single card first and if you do not find it enough then buy another.

PS: Crysis 3 will drop under 60fps quite a lot with v.high settings, 0 AA, even on 1680x1050; on the above graphics card.
