*** The Official Sony Xperia Z1 'Honami' Thread ***

Shocked there isn't one already as Sony will be releasing details on the 4th September at IFA.

Spec
  • 5-inch display of 1080p resolution
  • 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16 GB of expandable storage
  • 20 megapixel Exmor RS main camera will feature Sony G-lens and BIONZ image processor
  • IP57 certified
  • 3,000mAh battery

The Sony Xperia Honami will reportedly sport a 5-inch display of 1080p resolution. The smartphone is going to be powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and feature 2 GB of RAM.

The 20 megapixel Exmor RS main camera will feature Sony G-lens and BIONZ image processor, but its sensor will measure 1/2.3" rather than the previously rumored 1/1.6".

The impressive snapper will be joined by a 2 megapixel front facing snapper. The smartphone will have 16 GB of expandable storage to save all those shots and will draw its juice from a 3,000mAh battery.

Sony Xperia Honami is said to be IP57 certified, which it is completely dust-protected and it will withstand a meter of water for 30 minutes. The Xperia Honami reportedly measures 144 x 73.9 x 8.3mm and will come with a great set of connectivity options along with latest version of the Android OS - 4.2.

The upcoming flagship smartphone from Sony is expected to compete against the likes of other camera-phones such as Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and, more importantly, the Nokia Lumia 1020.

Sony is set to unveil its Honami smartphone at its press event on September 4 at the IFA expo in Berlin.

Hopefully this doesn't have a washed out display like the Z, but a proper IPS/HTC ONE/OPPO 5 LCD screen.

20MP??!: Why?

Early reports says the screen is miles better than the Z. Camera sensor/lens is the big one and the 20MP and 4K video recording are just marketing bluff.

numbers game.. but I won't judge till I see the proper reviews, sounds like a nice headset and something I might have to pick... ;)

As long as the display is more Z Ultra than Z! However some early camera samples aren't particularly great though poor camera performance from a Sony doesn't come as a surprise to me.

Plus this means within a few months another Sony flagship becomes second fiddle resulting in a dubious software support cycle.

I would say sony is bang on with their software support.. :)

They have improved but only really since the Z which wasn't exactly what I would call "shortly after release" for 4.2.2. What I mean is their adeptness to release so many phones coupled with slow software release meaning former flagships falling by the wayside. The Xperia S for example - a flagship for 2012 and 4.1 (which was buggy just like ICS for the S) took a very long time to be released. With the 18 month support cycle in mind, there is only about 4 months left meaning we will be lucky to get 4.2.2 (unless they skip straight to 4.3).

it was rubbish but they are improving it like no other.. Haven't you seen stock android etc releases for flagships?

Maybe their stock ROM's now are okay, but their support is still horrific.
They recently withdrew JB from the Xperia U, which only got a pretty rubbish ICS ROM over its rather naff GB one.

They quoted RAM problems for JB, yet ICS is more intensive.....

Whereas my Xperia Play had a faster feeling stock ROM, despite being half the phone, and that didn't even get an ICS ROM, yet I'd been running an XDA JB ROM and it's been perfect.

Yup, will never touch a Sony phone purely due to their slooooooooooooooooooooooooow updates and on top of that, being as buggy as anything!

At least the screen on this looks much better than the sub par XZ screen!

numbers game..

Sadly yes, 8MP is the sweet spot for camera phones. Unless you have good glass and system like on the 41MP Lumia.

Another stupid-silly numbers game:

LG has just showcased a new 5.5-inch display for smartphones that has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, with a pixel density of 538 PPI and 430 nits of brightness. LG is calling it a ‘Quad HD’ display because it has four times the resolution of a typical 720p HD display.

LG is yet to announce any device that will have this display but pretty sure we would see something later this year or early next year that might.

pointless, I can't see a single pixel on my 5" 1080p display.. literally no need for more.

Might need a thread title update now it's apparently the Z1 :)

I'm getting this one as my upgrade for definite, but can't imagine I'll be using the stock Sony software for longer than five minutes!

RE - LG phone.....for the love of God I am starting to get peeved at ever faster SoCs and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious super-warp HD screens but yet only the modest of battery increases/upgrades.

Updates are a lot faster and hardly any bugs for my XZ. Had about 5 updates since the phones been out.

DONT YOU DARE!

I see no problem with sony tbh :) the biggest pos i've seen is HTC and LG.. nothing ever from LG and HTC seem to discount devices way to fast..

Too much hate for sony, dont understand it myself. Wife had an Arc S for 18 months, it got a bit laggy in the end but it took great photos and worked quite well even with a corner of the screen broken.

My XZ has been rock solid since I had it, put it next to my wifes S4 and theres not much between them. Screen is a bit better on the S4, speaker too but that's about it. XZ has on screen buttons, waterproof and looks better.

:)
