EDIT: Built now, spec much lower down :)

Hi all,

Been out of the game for a long time so apologies if I've got anything completely ridiculous.

Was looking at the below build of which I've already got the 680 (One day deal bought last week) and the keyboard also. Could do with a recommendation on a respectable mid-budget mouse also as to be honest I'd hate to have to game with my mouse from years gone by.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 680 Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £289.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £197.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £155.99
1 x Iiyama Prolite E2482HSD 24" Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £125.99
1 x MSI Z87-G43 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard - FREE Alpenfohn Civetta Cooler!! £108.97
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual CHannel Kit (PV38G213C1K) £65.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Case - Black £61.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 600w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020060-UK) £59.99
1 x Logitech G105 Gaming Keyboard (920-005055) £54.95
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £49.99
Total : £1,193.26 (includes shipping : £17.85).

Also had a comment from a friend that there are perhaps better cases out there for the ~£60-70 mark so happy to hear any suggestions in that respect.

Cheers,
Alex

I think your spec is fine, plenty of power that should last a while there.

As for the case I don't think you are going to get any vast improvements on what you have currently chosen unless you go past the £100 mark.

As for a mouse I always recommend the Razer Deathadder.

also consider

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-204-MS

its pre order tho

(only because everyone raves about how oc able theses cards are :) (and price ofc)

I wish people would take the time to read the post before they write stuff..

I won't give you the satisfaction of telling you why this is a waste of a post, read it this time. :)

I agree, the spec looks good, only thing i'd change is the motherboard to this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-437-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2574

And grab an aftermarket cooler: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-082-TR&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2352

The civetta isn't upto much anyway..

I also agree on the death adder, i have one, stunning mouse.

OK i desrved that could have been alittle gentler tho everyone makes mistakes :o, also OP i take it you wont sli in the future cause as i see both boards yours and Dooms will only crossfire?

Also do you plan on OC'ing since the stock cooler will be fine if you dont although an after market cooler is abit better for hours of gaming?

Sorry, still half asleep and not in the best moods.. :)

The PSU won't handle SLI/Xfire either so i assumed it wasn't needed.

Thanks all for the feedback - glad to hear I'm not miles off on what I've been looking at.

I probably won't be looking to overclock from the off, it's something I'll consider if/when the processor becomes a bottleneck but until then will probably stick with stock settings on the stock cooler.

Is there a benefit to the Z87-D3HP over the Z87-G43, or is it more of a manufacturer preference?

Didn't have any plans to SLI/Crossfire anytime soon, to be honest its one area that's very new to me but I'd probably be more comfortable swapping out the card for a higher spec one should the time come rather than running multiple cards.

Death adder has left a good initial impression, I'll look into it a little more now :)

Thanks again for the advice.

The differences between the mobo's are quite minimal. If you had no real plans of using multi cards or over clocking then I would go with your initial choice of mobo as it comes with a entry after market cooler that will handle normal clock temperatures no problem.

I also prefer MSI's bios UI compared to Gigabyte, but that's subjective I suppose.

My alligence is the other way. :)

I prefer the gigabyte BIOS and their UK RMA. :)

very little between the two though, only subjective points as such.. :)

Will give some thought to the motherboards and run it past the mate helping put it together (as I say it's been a long long time!) although the UK RMA does sound worth having if there's not much else between them.

As I'm not planning to OC from the off I'll probably use the stock cooler for now but then add a decent cooler and a small overclock further down the line :) Really liking the death adder after doing some research so that may well find its way to the list also... the 2013 version being green would match the keyboard also heh.

Also what sort of solutions are there for wifi these days? I'm assuming that it won't be built into the Motherboard? Unfortunately my router is downstairs but the rig will be upstairs :(

Edit: One last thing, would it be worth spending the extra to get an SLI enabled Mobo? (something like Z87X-D3H ?) No plans to SLI as yet but would be much easier to swap just the PSU to do so than have to swap the motherboard also...

So, just to finish this thread, I ended up going with the below spec after lots of advice from here and from the person helping me build the PC. Got it all set up and it is very comfortably running BF3 with all settings on ultra which is what I wanted - very quiet but doesn't have any OC on it at all at the moment as not had a chance to check out the operating temps of everything yet and the case is a little airflow restrictive.

Thanks all for input on this spec :)
